Torch Blazes through Megalopolis
The Equinics torch began its journey through the Megalopolis with a mooseback traverse from the Canadian border southward through Maine. The residency asked trainer lightng99, the biggest supporter of the residency and provider of many of its Equinics participants, to then accompany the torch through New Hampshire. This he did, though the sim state legislature in Concord symbolically turned its collective back on the torch as it passed through the capital city. No matter, as the torch entered Massachusetts, it was taken up by riders costumed like Paul Revere, and the procession passed through the “Big Dig” tunnel and down to Rhode Island. Next stop was the site of the former Narragansett Park, then eastward to Connecticut. Residency manager fastnfirm brought the torch to his hometown of Mansfield, but the torch was nearly extinguished when he stopped to lay a few bets at the Mohegan Sun casino racebook. Flame revived, he brought the torch over the Tappan Zee bridge (no toll westbound) and into northern New Jersey. This route was chosen over the George Washington Bridge, as lanes have been known to close on that one unexpectedly….
The residency had hoped to enlist the Boss for a big Equinics party on the JerseyShore; alas, he was unavailable, but Southside Johnny phoned and said he was free. After the party, the procession paid respects to former racing sites at Atlantic City, Garden State Park, and on down I-95 to Havre de Grace in Maryland. Everyone had steamed crabs and beer and headed past Pimlico for the westward trip to West Virginia. Traveling with a torch there proved dangerous, as high winds caused four wildfires at abandoned strip mines. But the torch itself safely reached Mountaineer Park in Wheeling, where the residency relinquished it with a sigh of relief.
Megalopolis Racing Circuit wishes to extend a thanks to Pastures of Green and to lightng99 for teaming up on the residency’s entries. If you haven’t checked out Megalopolis, note that our purpose is to sponsor a series of stakes for local breds in our region, now with a focus on 2yo, 3yo, and female races to augment the sim’s offerings. We also have a championship day in October. Why not support the residency with a stable or two?
