New Zealand – Thursday, October 29, 2026 – 9:45 PM EST – Race ID 3675066

Finke Daimler Championship – Stakes, $100,000 – 12 Furlongs, Yielding Turf

This is the Finke Daimler Championship at New Zealand going a mile and a half on yielding turf for $100,000. Breeding restrictions here – SAF, ZIM, KEN, LIB, NZ only, so South African and New Zealand breds. Twelve furlongs on yielding turf is a real stayer test.

This week is a hot week in racing and although the Breeders’ Bowl is at the very top of the list, we also have many great graded and listed stakes races that are going off this Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. One such race will run on Thursday and it is in New Zealand, the Finke Daimler Championship at 12 furlongs on the Yielding Turf. The race has drawn ten contenders with two mares ready to take on the boys. This is a competitive field and a 3 year old has also selected to take on the older horses. There are only two prior Local Listed Stakes winners in the crowd, and the rest will be trying to fail them from getting another. The morning line odds and post positions have been released. Let us now take a preview of the ten horses that will make the start in New Zealand for the grueling 12 furlongs in the Finke Daimler Championship.

1. ABSOLUTE FAVORIT – 5/1
Owner: spinround – Breeder: safspin – Foaled in South Africa. By ORATORIO out of STREET SENSE out of DYNAFORMER.
Six-year-old bay horse, 36 starts, 8 wins, $314,786. Local Champion, stakes winner, claim horse. Dam is WANTING PROPHECY, winner.

Bred by safspin, owned by spinround. Home track breeding, South African foaled. Veteran at 36 starts. He was second August 6th in the Dead Zone Stayer at 12 furlongs on fast dirt by a half with a 99, same distance, and second October 30th, 2025 in the Local Championship at 12 furlongs on firm turf by a length and three quarters with a 109, same distance – that 109 at 12 furlongs is solid. Fourth January 25th in the Lex Luthor Turf Endurance at 12 furlongs by nine and a quarter with a 108, same distance. He is 5-for-22 on turf for $211k. CPU 977. His most recent start was on the dirt and now coming back to the turf where it seems he has his best performances. He needs to step up when he heads out representing the Empire State Racing residency.

2. SATAN’S BEAST – 9/2
Owner: bumlebo – Breeder: euro1 – Foaled in New Zealand. By SUPER SETH out of O’REILLY out of FORT WOOD.
Four-year-old bay colt, 15 starts, 5 wins, $163,066, all turf. Stakes placed, allowance winner.

Bred by euro1, owned by bumlebo. New Zealand foaled, so he fits. He was second August 2nd at New South Wales at 10 furlongs by a length and a quarter with a 112 – career best and best last out figure in the field. Won an allowance June 27th at 12 furlongs on firm turf by two and three quarters with a 109, same distance as today, and won January 11th at 11 furlongs by a length with a 111. He is 4-for-13 at routes. CPU 1455, highest in the field. He was tenth last out in the Osmonds Memorial G1 September 20th at 10 furlongs by sixteen with a 99 against Grade I horses. Drop back to these restricted stakes and 12 furlongs on yielding turf, that 112 second at 10 furlongs two back puts him on top. He needs to find that 112 speed again from two starts back and not have another failed attempt as in his most recent start. He will be heading over to the turf representing the Down Under Racing residency.

3. GREEN LASERS – 7/1
Owner: 9thstreet – Breeder: bumpercrop2 – Foaled in New Zealand. By DARCI BRAHMA out of INDIAN CHARLIE out of MR. PROSPECTOR.
Five-year-old bay horse, 12 starts, 4 wins, $143,556, all turf. Allowance winner. Dam is WAR MASK, Grade II winner $250k.

Bred by bumpercrop2, owned by 9thstreet. Dam was a Grade II winner, so there is class. He just won an allowance September 19th at 9 furlongs on firm turf by three and a half with a 109 – career best at that distance. Second August 3rd at 10 furlongs by three and a quarter with a 101. He is 4-for-9 at routes. CPU 1275. He has never won at 12 furlongs, and he was ninth June 11th in the Cidaris Stakes at 10 furlongs by eleven with a 99. That 109 win at 9 furlongs was impressive. Although he went gate to wire in his most recent start I worry for him jumping up to this distance of 12 furlongs when he makes the start to the cheers of an excited crowd.

4. CONTRIBUTED – 9/1
Owner and Breeder: harrylan10 – Homebred, foaled in New Zealand. By CONTRIBUTER out of MEDAGLIA D’ORO out of MR. PROSPECTOR.
Four-year-old bay gelding, 10 starts, 3 wins, $107,780, all turf. Allowance winner. Dam is MS. MEDAGLIA, stakes placed allowance winner $250k.

Homebred for harrylan10. Won an allowance August 6th at eight and a half furlongs on good turf by two and a quarter with a 105, and won May 6th at 10 furlongs on firm turf by a head with a 100. Second January 28th at 12 furlongs by a length and a quarter with a 98, same distance. Won his maiden October 25th, 2025 at 12 furlongs by fourteen and a quarter with a 97, same distance. He likes 12 furlongs. CPU 1061. Two starts back he failed at a Local Stakes start at 9 furlongs by fourteen lengths. He will need to prove to be better when he heads over to the turf the Elite Racing Club residency.

5. WROTE BAD CHECK – 25/1
Owner: pecos199 – Breeder: cash4kirby – Foaled in New Zealand. By WROTE out of INTO MISCHIEF out of SMART STRIKE.
Three-year-old bay colt, 15 starts, 5 wins, $155,436. Allowance winner, claim horse. Dam is BLEWINTOTOWN, allowance winner.

Bred by cash4kirby, owned by pecos199. He is a dirt horse. Won an allowance August 12th at 9 furlongs on fast dirt by a length and three quarters with a 99, and won May 16th at nine and a half furlongs on fast dirt by a length and a quarter with a 97. On turf he was sixth January 23rd at 9 furlongs by thirteen with an 87. Three-year-old against older, 25/1 for a reason. CPU 768 second lowest. This horse has been making his most recent starts on the dirt and would flop at 11 furlongs by over 24 lengths back. He is headed over to try the turf this weekend, and I can’t find much promise in his arrival at the wire representing the Empire State Racing residency.

6. I’M GONNA ERUPT – 26/1
Owner: nevada8 – Breeder: nevada – Foaled in South Africa. By ERUPT out of SHAHRASTANI out of AGNES TACHYON.
Five-year-old bay gelding, 7 starts, 3 wins, $61,452. Allowance winner.

Bred by nevada, owned by nevada8. South African foaled, fits the restriction. Won an allowance April 2nd at 12 furlongs by two with a 98, same distance, and won January 28th at 12 furlongs by a length and a quarter with a 99, same distance – those are his two best figures at the distance. Sixth last out May 14th in the Lyons Stakes at 12 furlongs by twenty and a quarter with a 95, same distance. Lightly raced for five-year-old, only 7 starts. CPU 738 lowest in field. Two starts back he would pick up a Local Allowance win at the distance. In his most recent start in New Zealand, he would flounder like a fish out of water some 20+ lengths back at the wire. He will need to step up his game this Thursday when he heads out representing the Hoosier Racing residency.

7. ERUPTION OF JOY – 3/1, Favorite
Owner: nightnurse – Breeder: givenmadness – Foaled in South Africa. By ERUPT out of KITTEN’S JOY out of MISWAKI.
Five-year-old bay gelding, 22 starts, 4 wins, $168,240. Stakes placed, winner, claim horse. Dam is JOY TO ASHES, stakes placed allowance winner $100k, claim horse.

Bred by givenmadness, owned by nightnurse. South African foaled. He is the favorite at 3/1 and I get it. Second May 14th in the Lyons Stakes at 12 furlongs by a length and a quarter with a 110, same distance as today. Second January 22nd in the Hate My Boss Challenge at 12 furlongs by a head with a 112, same distance – that 112 at 12 furlongs is the best figure at 12 furlongs in the field tied with his other race. Third March 19th at 14 furlongs by three and a half with a 107. Won a claimer October 11th, 2025 at 12 furlongs by nineteen and a half with a 110, same distance. CPU 1327. He loves 12 furlongs and yielding turf should help his ERUPT sire. He has had some good starts at the distance in Local Listed stakes races in the past. He is dropping back down in class and distance from his most recent start and could get a hit this time if he can show up with a nice turn of foot in the stretch representing the British And European Racing Club residency.

8. HUNG LIKE MCCLUNG – 11/1
Owner and Breeder: mtkfever – Homebred, foaled in South Africa. By THE UNITED STATES out of GIANT’S CAUSEWAY out of TAPIT.
Four-year-old chestnut colt, 12 starts, 4 wins, $165,690. Local Champion, stakes winner, claim horse. Dam is GIANT MAMA TAP, stakes placed allowance winner $250k.

Homebred for mtkfever. He won the Dead Zone Stayer August 6th at 12 furlongs on fast dirt by a half with a 100, same distance – same race Absolute Favorit was second in. But on turf he was eleventh June 11th in the Cidaris Stakes at 10 furlongs by thirteen with a 97. He is 3-for-7 on dirt for $135k and 0-for-4 on turf for $10k. Yielding turf at 12 furlongs is not his game. CPU 1084. His two most recent starts have been on the dirt, and he has not shown well on the turf in the past. He is making another turf start on Thursday and will need to show a little more class representing The Mecca residency.

9. SUPER SLEUTH – 5/1
Owner: bargainbabies2 – Breeder: myt4go8 – Foaled in New Zealand. By SUPER SETH out of ENGLISH CHANNEL out of SADLER’S WELLS.
Five-year-old bay mare, 38 starts, 15 wins, $482,831, almost all turf. Stakes placed, allowance winner, claim horse. Dam is OLDE ENGLISH MILL, allowance winner $100k, claim horse.

Bred by myt4go8, owned by bargainbabies2. Iron mare, 38 starts, 15 wins, $482k highest earnings in here after Absolute Favorit. She was third October 10th at 11 furlongs by eight with a 103, and third August 5th at ten and a half furlongs by a length with a 107, and second July 11th at 11 furlongs by three and a quarter with a 103. Won February 9th at 14 furlongs by sixteen and a half with a 105. She is 12-for-29 at routes. CPU 1163. She will grind all day on yielding turf. This mare has faced the boys in multiple starts but she has not proven success in taking them on at this level of racing. She needs to pop with a good closing effort if she is to find her name in lights representing the The Mecca residency

10. ACE THE TURTLE – 5/1
Owner: wemetatcline – Breeder: latrell – Foaled in New Zealand. By ACE HIGH out of SEBRING out of SADLER’S WELLS.
Five-year-old brown mare, 22 starts, 7 wins, $218,912. Allowance winner, claim horse. Dam is TURTLE STEW, stakes placed allowance winner $100k.

Bred by latrell, owned by wemetatcline. New Zealand foaled. Won a claimer May 16th at eleven and a half furlongs by twelve and a half with a 110, and won June 23rd at eleven and a half by six with a 105, and was second July 27th at 10 furlongs by eight and three quarters with a 99. She is 6-for-19 at routes. CPU 1331. That 110 win at eleven and a half furlongs was on firm turf but it was huge. She has shown up well at the wire but those recent starts have been claiming and starter allowance races. She is moving up in class and will need to show she can do better against the boys when she makes the start representing the Orpahn Racing residency.

Skippy’s Predicted Finish:

Twelve furlongs on yielding turf at New Zealand, breeding restricted. You need a horse that stays all day and handles a bit of give. Satan’s Beast will sit off the pace, he was eighth early last out but first early in his wins. Eruption Of Joy will be fourth early, he was fourth early in his 110 second May 14th at 12 furlongs.

1st – #2 Satan’s Beast (9/2) – Owner bumlebo / Breeder euro1. New Zealand bred by euro1, owned by bumlebo. Five wins from 15 starts, all turf. Won at 12 furlongs with a 109 June 27th same distance, and was second at New South Wales at 10 furlongs with a 112 August 2nd. Highest CPU in the field at 1455. Handles yielding turf.

2nd – #7 Eruption Of Joy (3/1) – Owner nightnurse / Breeder givenmadness. South African bred by givenmadness, owned by nightnurse. Second at 12 furlongs with a 112 January 22nd same distance and second with a 110 May 14th same distance. Favorite and rightfully so.

3rd – #10 Ace The Turtle (5/1) – Owner wemetatcline / Breeder latrell. New Zealand bred by latrell, owned by wemetatcline. Won at eleven and a half furlongs by twelve and a half with a 110.

4th – #9 Super Sleuth (5/1) – Owner bargainbabies2 / Breeder myt4go8. New Zealand bred, 15 wins from 38 starts, iron mare, will be coming late on yielding turf.
