Coxless Stakes – Grade I, $3,000,000 – 10 Furlongs, Firm Turf
This Saturday we will be headed to Victoria where on the card they will again be hosting this seasons G1, Coxless states. A nice looking field of twelve horses will make the start going 10 furlongs across the firm turf at post time. They will all being attempting to get to the wire first to collect their share of a huge $3 million dollar purse over at the winners circle. Last years winner, No Worse For Wear owned by the Punter34 master stables will not be back to defend his title after picking up a big win in the G2, Dollares Prix with a 118 speed on October 10th. With speed like that he may have missed his calling here in the Coxless Stakes to defend his crown. The morning line odds and post positions have been released, so let us now take a preview of the twelve horses that will make the start in Victoria in this years running of the G1, Coxless Stakes.
1. SAYING ALL – 8/1
Owner and Breeder: coagulate4 – Homebred, foaled in Japan. By EPIPHANEIA out of DEEP IMPACT out of STREET CRY.
Five-year-old bay horse, 31 starts, 4 wins, $1,732,629. Grade I winner, millionaire. Dam is JUST SAYING, allowance winner $100k.
Homebred for coagulate4. He won the Sydney Cup G1 March 22nd at 10 furlongs by a length and a half with a 116, same distance as today. He was fourth in the Manha Manha Challenge G1 April 26th at 10 furlongs by three and a half with a 113, same distance, and was third in the United Country G1 July 25th at 11 furlongs by a length with a 109. Sixth last out in the Osmonds Memorial G1 September 20th at 10 furlongs by six and a half with a 109. That 116 win in March is the kind of number that wins this. CPU 1600 max. He needs a rebounding effort after his two most recent starts when he heads to the turf representing the East-West Connection residency.
2. BAAEED TO THE BONE – 9/2
Owner and Breeder: unionave – Homebred, foaled in Great Britain. By BAAEED out of GALILEO out of DYNAFORMER.
Five-year-old bay horse, 23 starts, 11 wins, $3,364,880. Local Champion, Grade I winner, millionaire. All turf, all routes. CPU 1600 max.
This is my top pick. Homebred for unionave, 11-for-23, $3.3 million earner. He won the Champion Stakes G1 August 30th at 10 furlongs by a length and three quarters with a 117, same distance as today, beating 13. He won the Aussie Queen G1 April 11th at 10 furlongs by three lengths with a 118, same distance. He won the National Stakes G3 January 31st at 10 furlongs by five and three quarters with a 118, same distance. He won the Second Coming G2 February 28th at 10 furlongs by a length and a quarter with a 115, same distance. That is 117, 118, 118, 115 in his last four wins at 10 furlongs. If he runs back to 118, nobody beats him. He has been running some good consistent speeds recently, except for the clunker two starts back. He needs to keep focus in Victoria as this is a race for closers when he heads to his gate representing the Empire State racing residency.
3. GOLDEN NAY WONDER – 5/1
Owner: fdllodged – Breeder: fdllodgec – Foaled in England. By NEW APPROACH out of NO NAY NEVER out of SEEKING THE GOLD.
Five-year-old chestnut gelding, 29 starts, 3 wins, $674,874. Grade II winner, $500k earner. Dam is NAYNOVEMBERWONDER, allowance winner $50k.
Bred by fdllodgec, owned by fdllodged. He just won the Euro Grand Prix G2 September 21st at nine and a half furlongs by a half with a 118 – career best. Second in the Gunsynd G1 August 15th at 10 furlongs by a length with a 113, same distance, and third in the Manha Manha G1 April 26th at 10 furlongs by two and a half with a 114, same distance. Second in the Sanka High G2 March 21st at 10 furlongs by three with a 114. That 118 last out was at nine and a half, but he can run 10 furlongs. CPU 1600 max. He had two good starts in a row and won a G2 in most recent start with a 118 speed. If he repeats that speed, he may see his number on the tote boards when he heads out representing the Down Under Racing residency.
4. JUST GIFTED – 10/1
Owner: justasr1 – Breeder: worldclass5 – Foaled in Kentucky. By JUSTIFY out of DANZIG out of DYNAFORMER.
Four-year-old chestnut colt, 18 starts, 6 wins, $462,980. Grade II winner, $250k earner.
Bred by worldclass5, owned by justasr1. He is in good form right now. Won the Stepson G2 September 13th at 8 furlongs by a length and a quarter with a 110, and won an allowance August 5th at 9 furlongs at Ireland by five lengths with a 114. Won an allowance April 11th at eight and a half furlongs by a length and a quarter with a 112. He is 4-for-11 on turf for $397k. He has never won at 10 furlongs, his best at 10 furlongs was a second March 2nd at nine and a half with a 103. CPU 1561. He needs to prove the distance. This horse has had two good races in a row, but may need to find a little more fire in his legs this weekend in Victoria when he heads out to represent the Orphan Racing residency.
5. ZUNA KVASIR – 8/1
Owner: daniel – Breeder: dannejaka1 – Foaled in Japan. By KIZUNA out of KING KAMEHAMEHA out of MONTJEU.
Six-year-old brown horse, 28 starts, 10 wins, $3,721,200. Grade I winner, millionaire. All turf, all routes. Dam is AKNA KING, Grade I winner and millionaire.
Bred by dannejaka1, owned by daniel, $3.7 million earner, highest in the field, 10 wins from 28 starts. He won the Queen’s Spring Cup G1 April 18th at 10 furlongs by four and a quarter with a 115, same distance. But since then he has been off form. Fourth in the Coalminer Cup G1 September 19th at 12 furlongs by three and a quarter with a 110, eighth in the Bow Fell Stakes August 20th at nine and a half with a 105, tenth in the Chicago Handicap G3 July 12th at 10 furlongs by seven and a quarter with a 104. That 115 win in April would make him competitive, but I need to see it again. CPU 1600 max. His best start at this 10f distance came back in April of this year with a 115 speed. He is going to need to find that again and maybe a little extra when he heads out to represent the European Union Racing Organization residency.
6. THE PRAT VERSION – 9/1
Owner: amoled – Breeder: arcticmole – Foaled in Australia. By NATIONAL DEFENSE out of DYNAFORMER out of GALILEO.
Four-year-old bay colt, 13 starts, 4 wins, $204,982. Grade III winner. CPU 1600 max.
Bred by arcticmole, owned by amoled. He won the Strange Hall G3 August 22nd at 9 furlongs by a length and a half with a 116, and was second February 1st at 9 furlongs at Ireland by three and three quarters with a 113. He was fourth September 26th at 9 furlongs in the Deadwood G1 by three and three quarters with a 112. He has never won at 10 furlongs, he was ninth April 25th at 10 furlongs with a 102. That 116 at 9 furlongs is big, but 10 furlongs is a question. He popped for a 116 speed rating two starts back and needs to find that pop on Saturday when he heads over to his gate to the cheers of an excited crowd.
7. OSCARSTORM – 27/1
Owner: gwsgiants5 – Breeder: closer99 – Foaled in Kentucky. By OSCAR PERFORMANCE out of REDOUTE’S CHOICE out of MINESHAFT.
Five-year-old bay mare, 26 starts, 1 win, $118,210. Stakes placed, winner. Dam is PARISTORM, allowance winner $100k.
Longshot at 27/1. Bred by closer99, owned by gwsgiants5. Only one win from 26 starts. Fifth last out in the Challenge Cup G3 September 6th at 10 furlongs by seven and a quarter with a 104, same distance. She was in this race last year and has not won since. CPU 1001, second lowest in the field. She has shown no promise in his most recent starts and is one of the longer choices in the morning line. I feel she finds herself in deep water against some in this field when he heads to his post representing the Universal Racing Club residency.
8. ONLYGONANDDUNNIT – 6/1
Owner and Breeder: ladywell – Homebred, foaled in Kentucky. By HONOR CODE out of MENDELSSOHN out of SUMMER SQUALL.
Five-year-old brown gelding, 29 starts, 5 wins, $1,647,775. Grade II winner, millionaire. Dam is SONG WITHOUT WORDS, Grade I winner and millionaire.
Homebred for ladywell, $1.6 million earner, 5-for-29, Grade II winner. He won the Gold War Front Cup G2 May 2nd at 9 furlongs on fast dirt by two with a 116, and was second July 4th at 10 furlongs on fast dirt in the Movieland Shiny Cup by three with a 115, same distance. On turf he was second December 26th at ten and a half furlongs on good by a head with a 114, and second October 11th, 2025 in the Eclipse G1 at 10 furlongs on good by a half with a 108, same distance. Fourth last out September 19th at 10 furlongs on firm turf with a 110, same distance. CPU 1600 max. He is better on dirt, but that 114 on turf is solid. His best starts looking at speed has been on the dirt, but shown he can be formidable on the turf as well. He will need to show better in this start when he heads out in the post parade to the cheers of an excited crowd.
9. SEDYNU – 5/1
Owner and Breeder: baggygreen – Homebred, foaled in Ireland. By SEA THE STARS out of DYNAFORMER out of NUREYEV.
Six-year-old bay horse, 29 starts, 6 wins, $1,392,161, all turf. Grade I winner, millionaire. CPU 1600 max.
Homebred for baggygreen, $1.3 million earner, 6-for-29 on turf. He won the Windy City Turf Classic G1 August 8th at 10 furlongs on good by a length and a half with a 115, same distance, and was second June 12th at 10 furlongs on yielding in the NY Island Cap by a half with a 116, same distance. Second September 20th at 10 furlongs in the Osmonds Memorial G1 by two and a half with a 113, same distance. That is 115, 116, 113 in his last three at 10 furlongs. He loves this trip. He seems to like the good and yielding turf but has done well on the firm turf as well in his starts. He needs to bring a good run here on the firm turf if he wishes to see his number up in lights representing the Orphan Racing residency.
10. RAVINGRAD – 7/1
Owner: deyoto8 – Breeder: championstud – Foaled in Australia. By RUSSIAN REVOLUTION out of NEW APPROACH out of RAHY.
Four-year-old bay colt, 19 starts, 4 wins, $440,440, all turf, all routes. Graded placed, allowance winner. Dam is NEW RAVE, graded placed stakes winner $500k.
Bred by championstud, owned by deyoto8. He won an allowance July 18th at 10 furlongs at Japan by six and a quarter with a 116, same distance – career best. Second September 26th at 10 furlongs in the Roberto Clemente G1 by a length and three quarters with a 115, same distance, and second August 23rd at 10 furlongs in the Flagship Affirm by two and a half with a 111, same distance. That is 116, 115, 111 in his last three at 10 furlongs. CPU 1600 max. He is improving fast. This horse has not been off the boards since April of this season. He needs to find another hit here when he heads over to the turf to represent the Midas residency.
11. VILLA ELISA – 22/1
Owner: dgr7 – Breeder: chevrolet – Foaled in South Africa. By THE UNITED STATES out of INVINCIBLE SPIRIT out of STREET CRY.
Six-year-old chestnut mare, 30 starts, 7 wins, $240,999. Graded placed, allowance winner, claim horse. Dam is THE PHONE MESSAGE, winner and claim horse.
Bred by chevrolet, owned by dgr7. She was fourth September 5th at 8 furlongs in the Matron Stakes with a 104, and third October 11th, 2025 at 8 furlongs in the Mile G3 by two and a half with a 108. She has never won at 10 furlongs, she is 0-for-18 at routes. CPU 979 lowest in the field. At 22/1, she is up against it. She looks to be in deep water against this field and has not shown a good effort in her three most recent starts. She gets another unfamiliar jockey in the saddle when she heads out at post time representing the Universal Racing Club residency.
12. QUEEN HEELS – 46/1
Owner: xfactor6 – Breeder: hotraces3 – Foaled in Ireland. By COTAI GLORY out of NEW APPROACH out of AFFIRMED.
Five-year-old chestnut mare, 20 starts, 4 wins, $212,041. Stakes winner, claim horse. Dam is LIPSTICK AND HEELS, allowance winner $50k.
Longest shot at 46/1. Bred by hotraces3, owned by xfactor6. She won a 5-furlong turf mare sprint June 21st, 2025 by a length and a half with a 99, and was third August 1st at 6 furlongs by a half with a 99. She was ninth last year in this Coxless Stakes October 25th at 10 furlongs by twenty four and a half lengths with a 91, same distance. She wants five furlongs, not ten. CPU 766. She has ran in dash races in the past and will be going off as the longest choice in the morning line. I do not see any money here. She will need to show a lot more effort when she heads out on Saturday representing the Universal Racing Club residency.
Skippy’s Predicted Finish:
Saying All and Onlygonanddunnit will be close early. Baaeed To The Bone will sit second early, he was second early in his 118 win April 11th at 10 furlongs. Ravingrad will be ninth early, he was ninth early in his 115 second place September 26th.
On firm turf at 10 furlongs at Victoria, closers with a big turn of foot win the Coxless.
1st – #2 Baaeed To The Bone (9/2) – Owner and Breeder unionave. Homebred, Local Champion, 11 wins from 23 starts, $3.3 million. Won the Champion Stakes G1 August 30th at 10 furlongs with a 117, won the Aussie Queen G1 April 11th with a 118, won the National Stakes G3 January 31st with a 118. Best horse at the distance.
