Small But Select Field Contest Yanta Snez
It’s that time of the year when sim trainers are grooming their prospects for the three year old classic races. Five trainers are launching their Bluegrass Oaks dreams today in sunny California in the Yanta Snez Stakes. The seven furlong distance is the perfect launching pad to a season of longer races. Let’s get to the field
#1 – Luted (7/2) comes out of the dayracing barn after a solid two year old season that saw her place in the G-2 Golden Red Stakes on November 27th last out. First or second in all five starts last season, Luted also shows a win at 7 furlongs two starts back, earning an 84 sp. Luted is the second foal from the New York bred g-grade mare Discontent. Luted’s sire is two time Breeder’s Cup Sprint winner Midnight Lute, who has two speedy fillies in this race. Luted will be piloted here by C Ginzo.
#2 – Thriller Night (3/1) from the worldwide stable also last raced November 27th. Her outing resulted in a 3rd place finish in the Kiki’s Firecracker Challenge Stakes. That race saw Thriller Night battling for the lead in second place for most of the race, the first time she had been beaten to the first pole in her five race career. Previous to that start Thriller Night was very impressive winning the Ricki’s Nightmare Challenge Stakes at seven furlongs with a 90 sp. Thriller Night is by Medicean and is the first foal out of the b-grade mare Cheap Thrillers. R Lombard rides today.
#3 – Grand Assembly (2/1) is today’s favorite. Ridden by M Staples for the kingdone4 stable, Grand Assembly is a Grand Reward x General Assembly x Mt. Livermore scratch bred filly. Grand Assembly is the most experienced filly in today’s race and also the most recently raced, last starting on December 4th. That race saw her run sixth in the 8.5 furlong St. Boca Stakes. Her last win was the G-2 Iron Desk Stakes at 6.5 furlongs back in August. Her sp #s are very competitive with today’s field, topping out at a 91 two starts back.
#4 – The Loot Is Gone (5/2) F Gossett’s mount has the most wins of any horse in this field, sporting a 7-5-0-0 record. The second Midnight Lute filly in this field, The Loot Is Gone was last seen finishing 11th in the Breeder’s Bowl Juvenile Fillies on November 6th. Previously the filly won the G-3 Margarine Stakes at 8.5 furlongs with an 88 sp. This filly also won three other graded stakes as a juvenile. The foals2010 barn trainee is out of the f-grade Smarty Jones mare Country Britches.
#5 – White Rhino (7/2) completes the field for owner houseriot and jockey A Lewis. White Rhino reeled off four straight wins climbing through her conditions before losing for the first time last out in her stakes debut. That race, a solid 2nd in the Crow Out Loud Challenge Stakes on November 27th saw her run her career top 86 sp. White Rhino is by Johannesburg out of the stakes winning e-grade mare Came Close.
Good luck to all of today’s runners!
