Tassie Back with 8 runners
Back to Tassie after a few weeks break plus I missed writing up last week’s due to the Breeders Bowl extravaganza which was a real shame as I noticed there was a large field last week which is excellent for the local racing here. Still a reasonable field here does battle with 8 runners for a $40,000 purse. Couple of goers here should make the finish exciting for the crowds!
As always if I hear from the winner with some comments about your horse, how it ran, anything you like really (on the forum or pm me) before I do the recap you get half of the credits from this writeup!
1 BATAVIA(KY) bredtasell R Trabue 7/1
This one likes the distance which is just as well because that is what he is racing here again. Posting some very good speeds of late is hoping to continue that run here. Just needs to wind up early enough to hit the line in front. Looked very good on an off track 2 runs ago – 1 start for 1 win on a slow dirt track. Id certainly look to race him on that type of track again. Would go well at Graded level on that too.
2 SOULFINGER(IRE) curlinstud D Manuel 9/1
Looked very very good 2 runs back over 9 furlongs at Allowance level but couldnt run out his last race over 9.5 furlongs. Stepping up here to Stakes needs a good run to challenge. Not sure if the distance is beyond him or not but gets another chance to prove his mettle here.
3 AICHA MAJOR(JPN) grandslam A Tazdevil 6/1
Last two races at Stakes level both finished in second place so odds on he will do it again here. Wants the win though as does the trainer – noone remembers who runs second do they? Needs a touch more pace and he can do it.
4 SYMBOLIC GESTURE(JPN) aliskunk K Hawkz 5/1
Ran in Graded race last time out and what that proved is that he is certainly not at that level. Dropping back to Stakes here is still questionable. Looks a good allowance runner but just may pinch a race here and there at this class. Maybe…
5 AS WELLS MAMBO ruby6 W Perkins 11/1
This will be far far far too short for this 8yo out of Sadler’s Wells. Wants 16 furlongs and nothing less in my opinion. Good runner and certainly a Stakes or better racer still but as I said needs a ton more distance than what is on offer here.
6 MORNING(KY) hillhouse J Harzheim 3/1
One of the favourites, this one needs to start his run early or else he won’t hit the line in front. Can run the distance easily no problem there. 6yo now but still very competitive at this level over this distance. Probably wants longer but may just do it here. Place probably.
7 HARLAW(KY) given4 K Best 3/1
Another wanting a lot more distance than what is going to be on offer here, this 4yo out of Ghostzapper has been running well and in good from. Some big consistent speeds all well over the 100 mark might have enough with his pace alone to win this. Only question mark will be the distance – can he wind up early enough to challenge.
8 ENDLESS BREW(KY) pennylane Do Tyrrell 4/1
In excellent form with a 108 speed last race at Stakes level over 9.5 furlongs. Has never run on turf but then who needs that when he is doing well on dirt so far. Definitel a Stakes runner looks the best of the lot here in my opinion. Have to think a place at worst.
