BEACHED MAY LEAVE THEM HIGH AND DRY

Eight speedy three year old fillies have made the journey to California this week to contest The Saint Paula Grade III event, a sprint over 6.5 furlongs on a fast dirt course with a handsome purse of $100,000. Let’s take a closer look at how the combatants stack up against one another;

1 – COLDEST CAVE(KY) – steller1 – 7/1 – This will be her third outing as a 3yo after a great 2yo season. This year so far she has produced a 1st and a 2nd from 2 runs, both over a mile in Allowance company. She has won 4 from 8 in total and like to position herself up near the lead during her runs. Has talented jockey F. Ford on board. The main query is the sharp drop back in distance although half of her career wins have been in sprints.

2 – IF YOU SEEK AMY(JPN) – mrbigb – 7/1 – After a solid 2yo season this daughter of Special Week made her stakes debut at her first 3yo outing when a fading 3rd 2 starts back. Improved next start to win the 6 furlong Near Under Spatula Stakes convincingly. Looks like she may have a nice year ahead of her if she can maintain that consistancy. Represents some value at 7/1 for thos who think she is a star in the making and would like to invest.

3 – SEVEN YEAR FAMINE(KY) – acote10 – 6/1 – A real baby of the field experience wise who is only having her 3rd race start here. Won well in a Maiden event over 7 furlongs when coming from the tail to blouse them. Followed it up with a fast finshing second over 7.5 furlongs in stakes company last time out. Drops back a furlong here which appears as though it may not suit. She does have the services of the legenday A. Diminguez which is a bonus. Prefer to see a little more of her first.

4 – COME ON WENDY(KY) – candyman – 5/2 – A stakes winner at this distance already as a 3yo and also placed at Grade I level over 6 furlongs. Likes to sit last and fly home with a withering burst. Has amassed almost 1/4 of a million dollars in prizemoney. A daughter of Belong To Me who’s only concern is her jockey, P. Incay ( 34 – 0 – 2 – 1 – 0% ). Apart from that she looks to be the main chance.

5 – ON THE RIGHT SIDE(IRE) – meguire2nd – 4/1 – This will be just her second outing as a 3yo. Did win at 6 furlongs in both Grade 2 and 3 races as a 2yo. This daughter of Lawman ran 5th last start in a Grade 1 event over 6 furlongs. On her best form she can win this but it is hard to asses how she has returned as a 3yo. Take on trust.

6 – BEACHED(KY) – punter34 – 10/1 – Has a very imposing win record of 7 wins from just 9 starts including 2 from 2 as a 3yo albeit over longer trips. She did win over this distance in stakes company as a 2yo and looks to be amazing value at 10/1. Also has the benefit of master hoop F. Griffen at the helm. Will look to lead and this filly by Johannesburg can easily upset them all here.

7 – FLAMIN EL(KY) – hawkes – 15/1 – A daughter of El Corredor who makes her stakes racing debut here failed over 9 furlong 2 starts back before a gutsy win over 7 furlongs in Allowance company. This looks a better distance for her but the class may be a little too much. Another one who prefers to lead and will have to work hard to do that. Would liketo see her in something slightly easier.

8 – FORTY CORINTHIANS(KY) – john7317 – 5/2 – A well named daughter of Corinthian who has been an absolute model of consistancy throughout her short career. She has won 4 from ten and finished in the top 3 on seven occasions winning over $400,000 in prizemoney along the way. Her 3yo form to date has only been fair when racing over longer trips. She drops back to something more to her liking today and will be right in this one at the finish. Will probably sit midfield and have a cosy run in transit with no other runners usually following that pattern. Huge chance.

I’ll predict an upset and gor for 6-8-4

Good Luck and Good Punting
