Blazing Saddles Residency stars in I Wish I Was A Skunk creature feature

Arizona–  Microwave some popcorn, grab a fun beverage, and settle back into your favorite comfy computer chair!   Get ready for Arizona’s main event and primetime punchout this week brought to you by the good folks at Blazing Saddles.  The show’s title:  I Wish I Was A Skunk Stakes, an owner-restricted shoot ’em up going one mile over a fast dirt track.   The winner gets the lion’s share of a seriously sweeeet $125,000 purse.   Blazing Saddle co-Sheriff Skunkbarn authorized-n-carded this sure-to-be blockbuster.

Our show’s supporting cast includes 13 of the 16 Blazing Saddles trainers.   The rowdy group has been preparing for this race since August.  They’ve been talking up a wild breeze on their forum page of late as well — lots of good ol’ fashioned smacky smack!  This race is a stepping-stone prep event for the residency’s Breeders Showdown Day in late November.  Blazing Saddles co-Sheriff Mtk76 bred some great prize horses for the Showdown.   What a great championship day for the young residency!

But enough about the supporting cast and crew — let’s get down to the nitty gritty.   It’s time for the $125,000 I Wish I Was A Skunk Stakes, starring Blazing Saddles’ very best 2yo colts and fillies…………

And our race sponsor sends out the slight racetime favorite from post #1.  Skunkbarn’s Skunkbridled Song (5/1) was an earlybird foal, but the Unbridled’s Song son has always shown promise.  The daredevil colt broke his maiden in his 3rd lifetime outing and has since been stakes-placed.   No telling what happened in the Buckeye Juvenile(G3) debacle August 30th.  The stalker dueled like a helion for early command, but just faded badly over the 8.5f.   This guy’s definitely bred for at least short routes.   He’s got the 4th best SP# in the field at 85.

Next up, Goose leads Hartford (16/1), a sassy son grandson of Aptitude, to post # 2.    Hartford made his lifetime debut last May, winning right off the bat in a 4.5f MSW.  Goose had no illusions with this obscurely-sired colt though — Hartford stayed in the ALWs where he’s since had a win and a 2nd from three tries.   The stalker rallied likey-split LTO around 6.5f for a 79 SP# score.  He’s got the heart to spoil these bluebloods.   Can he display that determined turn-of-foot again, but over a mile?

Halloween’s just around the corner and what better to give ya nightmares than a name like Stalking Celery (8/1)?  Wooo!  Heebee geebees, yow!  Kloie writes for the Bugler every now and then.  She sends out this Dixie Union winner from the three-hole.  Don’t be fooled, folks, though — Stalking Celery ain’t your normal green veggie.   The colt was healthy enough to break his maiden at 2nd asking, then place 4th after battling on the front end in a stakes contest.    His top speed is 77 and sure looks like he’s been begging for more ground.  Go, Celery, GO!

The names keep getting weirder with # 4 Turkey On Rye (79/1).  Charleston rolls for the jackpot with this plump bird by Rodrigo De Triano.  The filly’s still a maiden, but did manage to beat half the field in her turf debut.  Uggh.  Word has it though that the ‘Turkey is sharp as a tack.   Who knows?   This filly made it past Canadian Thanksgiving —  maybe she’ll run like the wind in anticipation of avoiding auction-fodder status before the upcoming American turkey day.  Gobble, gobble!

Mtk76 is next up on the board with A Vow To Vindicate (10/1).   Mtk76 submits a BTB report once in a blue-moon, but we appreciate those types of reporters, believe me!   Ha!  By Broken Vow, A Vow To Vindicate is very nice so far with a 3 of 4 record.  The big guy threw a sizzly 81 SP# last time out in ALW company after faltering at the black type level.  This one’s another who should apprecaite two-turns.  Getting better and better, that’s athe name of the freshman game.  Should close from midpack or further back.  Good chance.

Our second Dixie Union foal breaks from post # 6.  Union Song (13/1) looks very promising for Bluehorse after breaking his maiden in his 2nd career call to the post.    I like how the midpacker smoothly transitioned to the win column with a fine 68 SP# rally.  He’s still learning the ropes, but I can definitely see him take to two-turns.  Interesting dark horse longshot.

We got a first-time starter in post 7:  Pomquoque (12/1).   Longtime SRF/BTB reporter Chuckrock sees this Indian Charlie youngster to the post.   The filly is out of a Naskra x Ribot female family.   That indicates two-turns potential on the dirt and thensome to me. Never know what can and will happen with 1st-time starters so keep an eye on this gal.  Indian Charlie’s underrated on the Sim, no?  🙂

LOL!  Sim celebrity Meguire gets in on the action with Anger In The Wind (10/1).  The Strike The Gold colt happily broke his maiden right off the bat in pacesetting fashion for Meguire.   He then had to settle for 4th though in a short field 5.5f stakes.   His top speed is 75 which puts him up there with faves.  Look at that female family!   Summer Squall x Storm Bird screams classic distance two-turns.  This one’s just warming up….. even over a mile too!

Oh my goodness, Acote!  I haven’t seen ya writing in the BTB in a while.  🙂  Great to see ya in the game though — Pilgrim sends forth a sparky colt named Midtown Riot (6/1).   He’s by Street Cry and has won or hit the board in all 5 of his starts.  Midtown Riot broke his maiden on his 4th try and promptly added a 7.5f ALW score with a speed figure of 87.   That puts him # 2 in the by-the-numbers field.  Very classy stalker who you can easily see enjoying the mile attempt.  Great chance.   Yuppers.

Here’s another trainer name!   Is this Geoff (the Galileo)?  My apologies if you’re not, LOL!  🙂  Galileo sends out another filly for our mixed social:   Carroza De Dios (9/1).  The Smart Strike daughter breaks from post #10 after winning two in a row.  The pace presser has the 3rd best speed figure with 86 in an ALW LTO.  She too makes her first lifetime attempt at a mile.  My goodness!   The Caerleon x Mill Reef female family sure cries routes and more routes.   Big precocious threat.  Yeah.

Better give a second look to Tapped for Glory (12/1).   Galloplaz hopes the Tapit colt will appreciate the two-turns and I think so too.  The colt won his first two starts easy peacy with 75 and 78 SP#s.  Just toss out the Grade 2 debacle and you got a very promising stakes placing in his follow-up.  Horses have their ups and downs and this guy’s got a very callssy feamle family with Giant’s Causeway x Gone West.  He’s better than that Grade 2.  Very, very interesting.

Hey Alishan!  Thank you for your BTB reporting, kiddo!  😉  Alishan has an Aragorn filly who boasts the top speed number in the race:  90.  Grey Colac (6/1)  ran wishy washy in her career debut, a 4th place finish in a short field stakes.   But then sure picked up the beat and thensome when properly placed in MSW compnay next time out.   The filly rallied beautifully from midpack to score a 90 SP# 3/4-length score four weeks ago.     She’s got a much stamina-laden femaile family with Grey Dawn II and Buckaroo.   How good is this gal?  Mmmhmm.

Stylez also contributes to the Bugler every now and then.   Stylez sends out our 2nd Strike The Gold youngster.  Two For Gold (7/1) drew the far outside 13-hole, but factors into the faves’ gameplans with a pair of 80+ SP#s.   The colt won impressively at second asking, then finished 4th at the black type level.  That effort was even-steven around 6.5f.   I can see taking well to two-turns.   Definite possibilites.   Yup.

Snowchief’s Picks:

Good luck, Blazing Saddlers, and enjoy the show!  Boy, it’s tough to call a winner here.  Anything can and will go with the babies.  There’s a lot of quality in this field.

I’m gonna go with an interesting longshot:  Union Song to improve leaps after breaking his maiden LTO.  Midtown Riot rakes in the placing.   Filly Grey Colac up for the show over Vow To Vindicate, Anger In The Wind, and Skunkbridled Song.   But bet at own risk!   LOL!

Win:   Union Song
Place:  Midtown Riot
Show:  Grey Colac

Woohooo!  Go, Blazing Saddles, GO!!!!
