Crystal Seer hopes to improve over last year’s race

This preview has a slightly different format than previous previews.

For each entrant, the first paragraph discusses the last eight races,
the second paragraph comments on all earlier races, and the third, if
any, talks about both. The number after the earnings is the number of
100+ speed figures in the last eight races because that information
could be phrased only so many ways.

1) Crystal Seer 27 10-3-4 $388,484 7

Crystal Seer has run in three stakes (0-0-0) and five allowances (3-2-0)
recently. Her last was a G1 on an off track in which she finished fifth.

She appeared earlier in thirteen stakes (3-1-3) with four speed figures
over 100. She broke her maiden on the first try, then ran in two
allowances, winning both. Her next race was a G1 in which she was
unplaced. Among her stakes races last year was the Dolly Prummond; she
finished 10th, 6.5 lengths back.

She has won an ungraded stakes at today’s 6.5 furlongs. She has only
tried routes twice, winning and placing third at 8 furlongs. She usually
runs 5.5 to 7 furlongs and has wins at those distances.

2) Treasure Court 46 12-7-5 $868,865 6

All eight of her last races have been stakes (1-3-1), six of them
graded. Her last race was a G1.

She has 29 older stakes, graded (3-0-2) with no G1 wins, and ungraded
(3-2-2). She started once in a turf race and was distanced. In these 38
older races, she has speed figures of 100 or more in 20 of them.

She has won several races at this distance in ungraded stakes and
allowances.

3) Punch the Ticket 16 8-4-0 $273,115 4

Her last eight races have been stakes, half on the turf (1-1-0). Her
only graded stakes was a G1 on the turf where she was well back. She was
2-1-0 in the dirt races. She also had two fourths, one on each surface.

She has run in four other stakes, winning all three ungraded stakes, but
was well back in a G2.

Though she hasn’t run at this distance, she has won at both 6 and 7
furlongs.

4) Creeping Mon 14 4-2-3 $111,424 1

She has only one 100 and one stakes (ungraded), her last race, in which
she finished third. Her other recent races were allowances (3-1-1), and
has been no worse than fourth with speed figures in the 80s and 90s. She
has always been close – her greatest loss was 4.75 lengths.

Earlier, she was in five MSW races and one allowance. One was a turf
race in which she was third.

She has won an allowance and her MSW at this distance. Only once, in all
her races, has she finished more than 4.75 lengths back.

5) Knickers Off 55 12-7-7 $384,855 0

Knickers Off has run in two recent stakes, one graded in which she was
unplaced. In six allowances, one on the turf in which she was unplaced
on an off track, she won two and was unplaced in the others. She did win
her last, an allowance *350, with a speed figure of 91.

She ran in 18 earlier stakes with two placements in graded stakes and a
record of 2-2-2 in ungraded stakes. She had four more 100+ speed
figures in earlier races late last year.

She has won an allowance and an ungraded race at this distance.

6) Silver Splendor 18 3-6-1 $440,240 3

Silver Splendor can run on both surfaces. Her last three races have been
on turf where she won a G2 on an off track with a speed figure of 102.
She was unplaced in a G2 on an off track and an allowance. In five
stakes on dirt (four graded), she earned two seconds, one in a G3, the
other in an ungraded stakes.

Of her seven other stakes, five were graded on the turf. She has an
ungraded win on the dirt, two G3 wins, and a second in an ungraded race.

She was second at 6.5 furlongs on the turf in an ungraded stakes, but
has won both longer and shorter. About 75% of her earnings have come
from turf races and she has the highest earnings per race figure here.

7) Pearl of Wisdom 18 5-6-2 $246,606 3

Her last three races have been over 100. She’s been in three stakes, all
ungraded (1-2-0). Her last eight (4-3-0) include a second at 11 furlongs
in a very slow time (68) and a race at 9.5 furlongs in which she was
well back. Her last race, a win, was at 6.5 furlongs.

She has run in three previous stakes, an ungraded turf in which she was
unplaced, and ungraded dirt where she finished third, and a G2 where she
was unplaced on an off track.

She usually runs a bit longer – about a mile.

8) Koko Taylor 40 10-7-8 $604,385 6

Koko Taylor has run in all stakes (1-2-3), six ungraded to a G1 in which
she was third. She was unplaced, well back, in two of her last three.

She has 11 more 100+ speed figures and 26 stakes (11 graded 1-1-1; 15
ungraded 6-2-3). She won a G3 and was placed in a G2 and G3. One of the
ungraded races was on turf.

9) Ray’s Causeway 40 10-7-2 $492,688 6

She has been in 5 graded, 1 ungraded, and her last two races were
allowances, one of which she won. She was third in a G2.

In earlier races, she has had six more 100+ speed figures as well as 12
stakes, 7 of which were graded to G1 with a second in a G2 and a third
in a G1, with two wins and two seconds in ungraded stakes.

She has won and placed at this distance as well as longer and shorter,
but 7 to 7.5 furlongs seems to be her upper limit.

10) Hail to the Chief 25 9-5-2 $236,768 2

None of her recent races have been stakes but her last three (2-0-1, 3rd
on an off track) were at 6.5 furlongs as were two others in which she
was unplaced. Her only other recent placement was at 8 furlongs.

She ran in two ungraded stakes at age 3 (0-1-0) and five stakes at 2,
three ungraded (1-1-0) as well as a G2 and G3 inwhich she was unplaced.

11) Soaring Wild 21 7-4-4 $146,281 6

Her last two races were ungraded stakes (0-1-1) preceded by five
allowances (2-2-1), and a $60,000 claiming race which she won. Her last
three races were at 6.5 furlongs,and she won the allowance.

She has no earlier stakes races.

She usually runs on dirt up to about a mile.

12) SR Everyday 25 6-1-4 $122,767 2

SR Everyday has run in one stakes race, an ungraded race in which she
finished fifth. Her last race was an allowance at 6.5 furlongs where she
was fifth of five with a speed rating of 79. Her recent record is 2-0-0.

She has no earlier stakes, no additional 100 speed figures.

Her average earnings per race are the lowest of these fillies.

13) Juego del Fuego 16-6-2-2 $295,712 3

Her last eight races have been stakes, including a G1 and a G3 in which
she was unplaced. In six ungraded races, she has a record of 3-1-1; the
third was at 6.5 furlongs, and she has won both shorter and longer.

In earlier races, she has appeared in six stakes, including a G2 and a
G3 where she was again unplaced. She won three ungraded, one on the
turf, and was second at 6.5 furlongs.

14) Age of Kali 28 8-0-10 $153,290 6

She has been in four recent stakes, two of which were G3 (0-0-1) and two
ungraded (1-0-0). Her last four races produced 100+ speed figures. In
four allowances (3-0-1), two wins were (T) races. She has won an
ungraded stakes and an allowance at 6.5 furlongs.

Her earlier record shows six 100+ speed figures and five ungraded stakes
(0-0-4).

She has won to 7.5 furlongs.

Saturday’s field includes five 3-year-olds, five 4-year-olds and four
older horses. Silver Splendor is the only entrant with average earnings
per race over $20,000; eight more exceed $10,000.
