Horseshoe Falls Stakes
Grade II
Mile and a Half on firm turf
Open to all horses 3yo and up
This field of six horses will be an interesting race to watch. There are three talented 3 year olds looking to make a name for themselves against older. They picked a race where they will be butting heads with one of the top four year olds, Silencers. The pace and way this race will unfold seems to be a mystery. Rare in the Graded Stakes sim world there is no speed horse entered in the race. All of the top horses are closing types that like to make their run from deep in the pack.
PP # 1 – Silencers (KY) @ 6/5
Trained by: Super1, a member of Del Penn National
Ridden by: N. Linville
Silencers is a Grade I winning four year old son of Kingmambo, out of a Danehill mare. This accomplished horse came from the back to win the Sword Swallower GI at this distance with a speed figure of 109. He barely missed and ran second in the Smackdown 2 races back, running another 109 speed figure. This is his best distance, with his last six races at 12 furlongs averaging a 106 speed figure. He has never ran on or near the lead, so Super1 is hoping to get another horse to set an honest pace.
PP # 2 – Lucky’s
Trained by: Ferrari3
Ridden by: V. Townsend
Lucky’s
PP # 3 – French N Shifty (KY) @ 14-1
Trained by: Frenchtart, a member of RASH
Ridden by: B. McGafferty
French N Shifty is a Stakes Placed four year old son of Mineshaft, out of the Fusaichi Pegasus mare French N Fat. He was started on the dirt with only one turf race as a two year old. The next time he tried the turf was in June of last year with a 2nd in a 12 furlong stakes race. This distance seems to be his best distance on turf. He looks outclassed in this race.
PP # 4 – Distorted Colony (KY) @ 7/2
Trained by: Jrogue2
Ridden by: Mo Johnson
Distorted Colony is a Graded Placed three year old son of Distorted Humor, out of a Pleasant Colony. He was unraced at two, and has shown steady improvement throughout this year. He made his graded debut at this distance last out, running 2nd in the Grade I Owners Stakes, posting a 108 speed figure. This will be his first try against older horses, and has had some success at stalking the pace and on paper looks to be the closest thing to a speed horse in this race. He may be able to get the lead and run gate to wire.
PP # 5 – Galiesis (IRE) @ 7/2
Trained by: Goldsmith
Ridden by: B. Renfroe
Galiesis is a Grade I winning three year old son of Galileo, out of the Grade Winning mare No More Options, by Diesis. His last race was a win in Grade I The Irish Derby at today’s distance posting a speed figure of 110. His second race back was to only other 12 furlong race he’s ran, winning the Grade I Harbour City Stakes with a 107 speed figure. This is his first try against older but Goldsmith said he’s ready to for the challenge.
PP # 6 – Del Penn Gold (IRE) @ 5-1
Trained by: Sdmf2, a member of Del Penn National.
Ridden by: R. Heenan
Del Penn Gold is a Stakes Winning three year old son of Sadler’s Wells, out of an Alydar mare. He is another colt that was unraced at two and has been steadily improving this year. After a brief dirt campaign Sdmf2 switched him to turf and he loved the change. His last race was a 9.5 furlong race in which he was closing and ran out of track. Two races back he ran at this distance and posted a 104 speed figure. He likes this distance and is another colt making his first start against older.
My Picks – 5 – 1 – 4 in a Tri Box
