Ancient Marathoner Still Going Strong

I still love to run.   I imagine I always will.   I am only allowed to officially race seven more times.  But Bonus said he’s been contacted about me running a few exhibitions against humans, camels, monster trucks, Hell’s Angels and maybe Zippy Chippy.

I still remember all my races very well.  Each was unique.  My first was only six furlongs.  I was just getting warmed up when it was over.  That would be my last sprint ever.

When I was young I ran in all the big races.  Breeders Bowl Turf, Coalminer’s Cup, Sand Castle Turf, Ark and Equinics.  I won the Grade II Pan Americana and hit the board at times in other graded events.

Once I won a race by twenty three lengths.  It was so weird!  Nobody in sight and no hoof beats.  Then there were my two dirt races.  Interesting but really not my thing.

I faced all the big names.  Beat a lot of ’em at least once.  Remember Ebro, Dante and Russ?  I raced each of them many times.  Those short named guys sure could run!

Yes indeed, I faced the very best!  Allied Assault was a nice guy.  Never could beat him, though.  Bristol Rovers was a beast.  The boss’s colt, Sunken Treasure, was fast.  I even got to race against Stormy Prospector once.  How about that!

Sarah’s Blues was a hot filly.  I REALLY liked her.  Kayla’s Missile, too.  Sal’s a Thief was a punk.  But he could really run.  Paper St. Soap Co. was probably my favorite opponent.  We faced off a few times and he was very much a class act.

Plum Elrod and Evil Yes Evil were very serious, nose to the grindstone types.  Gave no quarter and asked none.  Sunnybank Memorial was hilarious!  Memo and I used to joke about being the two best looking horses with the two ugliest owners!

Majestic Water and Delaware River were quiet.  Never heard a peep out of either.  Maybe ’cause they were both all wet.

Before I retire, I’ll be touring So Cal, No Cal, W Va and Tennessee.  That drunk, Jocko Maloney, will get the mount at the Appy Spa.  I hope he doesn’t fall off like RBokie almost did once.  Speaking of…my final race will be in Nashville with my bud Ryan.  We’ve gotten together for the holidays the last six years.  And that’s how I want to go out.  Winning, hopefully, at my favorite track with my favorite rider.

In the meantime, next up for me is the fifteenth in So Cal this Saturday.  That lame odds maker has me second choice at 6-5.  But listen up.  I’m kicking butt Saturday.  That 4-5 chalk couldn’t beat me if his life depended on it.  Trust me, folks, I am LOCK CITY!  Mortgage the house!

Stop by and see me in the winners circle.  Bring your camera.  And bring carrots, please!
