Grade II – Little Ones Juvenile Filly

Little Ones Juvenile Filly
Grade II
Five and one half furlongs
Firm Turf
$250,000
Fillies and mares, 2 years old

Only nine fillies have showed up for this big Grade II race but we have many unbeaten runners putting their reputations on the line.  As you would expect from a race at this level every runner has chances of taking the win and the differences between them are really very small. The runners are:

ANOTHER INJURY(AUS)

Trainer: pmjstable

(Royal Academy x Smart Strike x End Sweep)

Odds:  9/1                   Earnings: 32,500                    Runs/Wins: 2/1

A 2yo filly from Baggio Stables bred from an E class mare. Finished fourth in her first run in Upper New York before winning a Pennsylvania maiden on yielding turf last time.  She’s travelled a long way to be here so her owner must feel she has the ability to do better than previous figures may suggest. Personally I feel she may struggle here and will do better over longer distances later in the year.

READY TO ROLL(KY)

Trainer: vampire3

(El Prado(IRE) x Forty Niner x Seattle Slew)

Odds:  3/1                   Earnings: 40,920                    Runs/Wins: 2/2

A 2yo filly from The Dog Pound bred from a C class mare (Nonstop Flight).  The favourite here won her opening maiden in Delaware and followed it up with a very nice allowance win in Vermont before travelling this long distance.  She’s obviously the one to beat and has never been headed yet, so if someone can take the initiative it will be interesting to see how she reacts.

BAGPIPE(KY)

Trainer: horseface

(Cozzene x Storm Cat x Rex Imperator)

Odds:  6/1                   Earnings: 35,330                    Runs/Wins: 2/1

A 2yo filly from Madhibby Racing based on an H class horse.  Won her opening maiden at Newmarket easily and narrowly came second in a stakes race in South Africa on her second run to a mare who looks an exciting prospect but chose an easier spot in Sweden this week where she is odds on to win a stakes race.  This filly could run the favourite very close indeed.

BLUSHING SPIRIT(IRE)

Trainer: beabono

(Invincible Spirit (IRE) x Blushing Groom(FR) x Sadler’s Wells)

Odds:  4/1                   Earnings: 9,660                      Runs/Wins: 1/1

A scratch bred 2yo filly from Red Dirt Runners.  Just the one run and win so far on yielding turf in Virginia so it’s hard to assess her chances here.  She certainly has the breeding to do well and looks to be a late runner so watch out for her late into the race.

WAKE UP SUN(JPN)

Trainer: rlogans

(Charismatic x Afleet x Siberian Express)

Odds:  11/1                 Earnings: 38,080                    Runs/Wins: 2/1

A 2yo filly from ONEWORLD Stables – Established Wk. 634 bred from an E class mare.  Her trained decided to give maidens a miss  and entered her straight into an allowance where she only managed third place in Upper New York.  She did make up for that in her only other run when narrowly landing a Maryland Stakes race, so she may feel she is ready for this step up in class.  As a result this is the largest field she has faced to date and her up with the pace style may fail to work its magic on this occasion.

JIN GIN(MD)

Trainer: lincoln

(Go For Gin x Allied Forces x Ago)

Odds:  30/1                 Earnings: 31,930                    Runs/Wins: 3/1

A 2yo filly from Lincoln Stables bred from an H class mare.  The most raced filly here with three runs under her belt she begun in a California dirt maiden which she hated, finished a long way back in the field.  She did, however land a Florida maiden next time with a patient finishing run, landing the spoils comfortably in the end and at pretty good odds too.  Her next race, a Californian Allowance, proved to be disappointing though as she could only finish in a well beaten fourth place so unless the travelling has woken her up a bit she could be found wanting once again.

FAIRY TALE PRAYER(AUS)

Trainer: mnbpstable

(Elvstroem (AUS) x Hansel x Polish Numbers)

Odds:  7/1                   Earnings: 21,840                    Runs/Wins: 1/1

A scratch bred 2yo filly from PazzJazz Music City Stables. Won her only race at Epsom pretty easily so could be a real danger here.  Not afraid to give others a reasonable lead but that could be a dangerous tactic in this one.

SHE MIGHT BE A GIANT(KY)

Trainer: gradeone

(Giant’s Causeway (IRE) x Seeking The Gold x Danehill)

Odds:  4/1                   Earnings: 12,180                    Runs/Wins: 2/2

A 2yo filly from More Evil Than The Evil Empire! bred from a B class mare (Bit Of A Ruse).  Bred from a Grade I winning mare she has started off quietly by winning both a maiden and a follow up allowance in Pennsylvania,  Despite neither SP# being particularly spectacular they were both comfortable wins for her,  so this more testing race could make her produce something a bit special.  Both horse and trainer should not be underestimated.

CHAPARRO(IRE)

Trainer: lawman4

(High Chaparral (IRE) x Woodman x Dixieland Band)

Odds:  6/1                   Earnings: 24,600                    Runs/Wins: 1/1

A scratch bred 2yo filly from Windward Farms.  Another unbeaten filly who won her debut in New York in good style.  Has a good turf pedigree and should be included in the mix, though at this level the dreaded ‘bounce’ is always a fearsome factor.

Summary

A real lottery with every runner being a winner so I’ll plump for She May Be A Giant purely because of her dams Grade I winning feat.
