Class on show in Texas G3 clash
Class on show in Texas G3 clash.
This weekends Grade 3 Jennifer Connley BC Turf Cap looks to be a punters nightmare with at least half a dozen genuine chances in this evenly contested affair. The Mets86 trained Spinning Summer will be looking to make it 4 consecutive wins while Bobo’s ever reliable Kepler Berzerk aims at completing a hat trick of wins.
Spinning Summer shares favoritism with the Andros trained Demptos at 6-1. Both horses have been in scintillating form of late. As previously mentioned Spinning Summer is a winner of his last three starts and as they say winning form is good form. Before running 10th in his last start Demptos had run in the top three in his previous seven races including a win in the grade 1 Kingab Mile.
Next on the line of betting are Kepler Berzerk, Redsadky and Ollie’s Quest at 7-1. Kepler Berzerk has won his last two starts over this distance albeit in allowance races. He has won in convincing style how ever, coming from well back to win in good time. Ollie’s Quest has not missed a place in his last nine starts, a remarkable effort considering he has raced in stakes or graded company in seven of those nine. Beamnreasn has been masterful in his placement with this horse and looks to have done well again getting his seven year old into this winnable race. Redsadky trained by Sherwood is no stranger to the winners circle either and is rightfully one of the stronger chances in the race. This six year old Red Ransom entire ran a close second to the impressive Rock Ballad last start in G3 company and has been freshened up in preparation for this race.
Dynamin and Palinyewah are listed at 9-1 respectively, The Willyam40 trained Palinyewah finished 5th last start, 3 lengths behind Redsadky in the G3 Strange Brew and it’s hard to see him turning the tables this time around. That being said it wont be a surprise to see him feature in the first three across the line as it wont be to see Dynamin’s number come up in the trifecta. Dynamin is trained by the astute Leesnyder and he has her primed for this race. This mare by Dynaformer is second up from a spell and after running a bold race first up I expect to see her right in it at the finish.
Lookadat Von is the first horse in double figures with the bookies at 10-1 and under’s at that. He could quite easily be double that quote seeing he’s never won a stakes race let alone a graded race. Theodore5 has thrown this horse in at the deep end but wouldn’t have without some inkling of a big run in store.
Sharks Indigo, Diplomatic Seattle and C You at the Wire are 13, 14 and 15 -1. Sharks Indigo trained by dcSharks had a horror run first up for 2008 but has won in stakes company before and could show up without surprising. Diplomatic Seattle is little value in this race. Having not won anything past an allowance race, this horse seems to be out of his depth in this high class field. Tis 1999 should be looking forward to a good year with this horse, just not at this level of competition. C U at the Wire is a promising four year old by High Chaparrel who is already a grade two and three winner and is trained by Lawyerron. If he runs up to his best form he’ll win this race and is my tip for the race. Grade one glory awaits this beautiful looking horse this season and I think Lawyerron will use this race as a stepping stone toward bigger and better things. At 15-1 he is massive overs and the best value runner in the race.
The last three runners in the race are all listed at 20-1 or worse. If either Beat My Rival, Lucky’s Azz or Grand Trigger wins it could only be described as a major boil over. Chuckrocke’s Beat My Rival has sporadic form and a career best of 4th in a stakes race over a mile, he will be simply outclassed in this race and may look for easier stakes races in the future. Lucky’s Azz from the Gipper stables comes into the race with two consecutive wins in Allowance races and three 100+ SP figures which reads well. He is a promising young horse but against the quality field assembled for this race he may get caught wanting in the final furlong. Karolyi’s four year Grand Trigger’s breeding suggest’s he’ll stay all day so running out the 9F will be the least of his problem’s. Having the necessary zip at the end of the race may be his undoing. In his wins to date he has motored along at the front of the field and simply out lasted his rivals. In this race however there is more depth than he is used to and like the previous two mentioned horses he will be found out when the pressure comes in the stretch.
All in all a great race is in store for us at Texas, and it will be well worth the admission fee to come along and enjoy what will be a fantastic days racing.
My tips for the race: 1st – C You at the Wire
2nd – Demptos
3rd – Dynamin
Good luck to all competitors, and I’ll see you at the races.
