Waki Slams the HAMMER DOWN?
The Set-Up: It’s not the Breeder’s Bowl but it is a Grade 1 for 3yo fillies at 6.5f on the dirt. There’s some fire on the front-end, a couple of quality stalkers, and some likely looking closers. O.K., time to get off the fence.
The Field:
FEUERBEFEHL – (CAT THIEF x FORTY NINER x HALO) – SARAVA02 – A nice filly coming off an 8 week break. Will be primed for this. Definite contender. 9/1
FLEETWOOD MIA – (STRIKE THE GOLD x SEATTLE SLEW x HIS MAJESTY) – FLEETWOOD – Throw out her last start route failure, and you’re left with a filly who’s always there and all class. 4/1
WAKI SLAM – (GRAND SLAM x MISWAKI x GREEN DESERT) – CHLOEDAWG – She’s not crazy about off tracks or routes, but she sure likes the looks off this assignment. She’s right there. 4/1
PLEASANT LASS – (PLEASANTLY PERFECT x NIGHT SHIFT x CUTLASS) – RICHARDOBE – She’s mixing surfaces with some success, and a couple of nice G3 efforts put her in the picture here. 12/1
SPEEDOMETER – (STORM CAT x GONE WEST x BUCKPASSER) – SIMSTERS1 – Her early promise suggested a rise to the top – she’s not quite there and she’s starting to find a few a bit tough. Not out of it though. 5/1
KOKO TAYLOR – (HIGH YIELD x CAPOTE x FORTY NINER) – BANDITKLLR – This one’s interesting. She was looking old and tired from constant tough competition. She then got a slight breather before really nailing a stakes field last start. She has a chance but I’m not crazy about the 7/2.
FLASH JONES – (SMARTY JONES x UNREAL ZEAL x BARACHOIS) – DERBYBOUND – She knows how to win, but does she know how to win Grade 1’s. Doubtful. 20/1
HIGH ON CAPOTE – (HIGH YIELD x CAPOTE x CONQUISTADOR CIELO) – BRYANJ79 – Well beaten at ALW level last start. This has to be a tough test. 12/1
TACTICAL RAT – (TACTICAL CAT x RED RANSOM x MILL REEF) – EDENRIDGE – Nice stakes placing last start and she could like coming back a furlong for this. The speed set-up could see her dash clear past the quarter pole; but there’s no longer home stretch than a Grade 1 home stretch. 8/1
OLD FOOL – (E DUBAI x STORM CAT x MT. LIVERMORE) – SPRINTBARN – Very consistent at ALW level. Thrown in the deep end for her stakes debut. Will she sink or swim? 25/1
ERMINGTON DROP – (EAVESDROPPER x CAT THIEF x CRYPTOCLEARANCE) – BIZALLS1 – Strictly speaking, this looks beyond her. But she’s the likely speed, and if they forget she’s out there, well…. stranger things have happened. 12/1
