BB Juvenile Features Fourteen Fabulously Fast Ones

Fourteen extremely promising colts will enter the gate in Saturday’s 8.5-furlong Breeders’ Bowl Juvenile at Kentucky with a huge $1.5 million Sim Bucks on the line as they vie for the honorary title of:

Early Bluegrass Derby favorite for 2019!

Ten of these precocious rascals already own graded-stakes trophies (five of ’em Grade 1’s!), and four have already surpassed the $750k mark in career earnings.  Solid bunch indeed!  So let’s take a peek at these guys…

LAND BOSS closed nicely to annex the 7-furlong Hopless Stakes last time out and tries two turns for the first time here.  A bay son of Street Boss, this graywolf15 trainee from the Graywolf6 stable group has a moderately sprint-heavy pedigree which perhaps is the reason for the harsh treatment by the oddsmakers dropping a 14/1 price on him.  However, it’s a set of bloodlines with some real quality, his highly productive dam being a Sim HOF member in addition to having won a number of graded-stakes badges and an Eclipse title.

WHAT EVER YA LIKE has only two wins in six career starts, but he made his second one a biggie as he dominated the Grade 3 Buckeye Juvenile two starts ago.  The striking bay by Union Rags followed that with a strong 2nd in the Grade 1 Sparkling Wine Stakes for asrstar2 of the 4Nighthawk stable group.  That group has two in here and they are both among the trio favored at 7/1; I guess they’re having a nice year, huh?

TELAH is a bay War Front colt out of Final Exit, a six-time Grade 1 winner (and Hall Of Fame member) that has also been highly successful in the breeding shed.  Trained by saver of the powerhouse Dixiedotco stable group, this guy is living up to his bloodlines in an impressive way, especially since stretching out to two turns where he has run away with a pair of races.  The most recent of these was the Grade 3 Charcoal Breeder’s Cup, where he daylighted the field and fired off a 97 on the speed gun.  Part of the trio favored at 7/1, this guy will be hard to deal with…

LOYAL CHIEF brought the G1 Sparkling Wins Stakes trophy home to demonsbegone of the Snowchief Racing Stable after a tremendous closing rush from last to first, beating WHAT EVER YA LIKE in the process.  The bay Into Mischief colt hung up a nice 98, tops in today’s field.  This effort brought him to the top of his sire’s earners, too.  Every rider in here will have a long look at the ol’ rear-view mirror as they hit the stretch, hoping not to see this freight train a-comin’.  Might be a bargain play at 10/1.

POUND THE ROCK owns a pair of graded-stakes wins and almost $800k in earnings, yet is a 13/1 longshot here.  The NYCowboy trainee moved up quite a bit last time out, improving his numbers from mid-80’s to a 96 while taking the Grade 1 End Of The Line Futurity at today’s distance and at this track.  It was also the bay No Nay Never colt’s first two-turn try, so maybe this in a large hint of things-to-come…

COMIN LIKE THUNDER has only a maiden win to his credit thus far, but the bay Cinco Charlie colt hasn’t backed down from anyone in five consecutive graded-race tries since that career-opening maiden win.  Racing for babies8 of the DerekCarlson stable group, he has two graded-race 2nds and with only a little improvement he can get right into the mix here at a nice 14/1 price.

DEPLORABLE TB is already the 2nd-highest earner by Turkish sire Pleasantly Perfect after just six career starts.  Doesn’t hurt that four of those starts are stakes wins…  Trained by shadyrest5 of the Testbarn racing group, this bay colt has an impressive three graded-stakes wins including his last, the Grade 1 North Fork Stakes during which he tore off a 97 speed rating at today’s distance.  Certainly a top contender at 9/1 in this extremely deep field.

INTO BEING NICE was definitely going fastest at the end of the Grade 1 End Of The Line Futurity, but the bay Into Mischief colt’s charge was just a bit tardy and he got beat for all the money by a length.  The top two in that race are here, too…  Will 2gunranch of the 4Nighthawk stable group have his rider stay closer or start the charge earlier?  Or will he “stick with the girl that brung him” and hang way back again?  No matter how they choose to go, this 7/1 co-favorite has the goods to take it on his best effort.

ALL CAT NO HATTLE was 2nd all the way around in the Grade 1 End Of The Line Futurity, getting passed in the stretch by POUND THE ROCK to miss by a length.  The bay prfctdrift trained Tale Of The Cat colt has already become the star of the Pleasnttap racing group after picking of two Grade 3 stakes wins and picking up nearly $500k in six career starts.  Consistent colt figures to be in the mix at 9/1.

AGAIN W A CLASSIC won at first asking, but only has one win since.  However, the brown son of Classic Empire has earned a check in two of four graded stakes races for derekcarlson7, and like his stablemate COMIN LIKE THUNDER could get right into contention with only a little improvement.  Longest price on the board at 15/1.

CURLIN’S STORM CAT is a bay son of Curlin (natch) trying two-turning for the first time after going 3-for-3 thus far.  The ddkstables20 trainee (Stockswami group) won the 7-furlong Grade 1 Dell Computer Futurity in fine fashion last time out while firing a 96 speed rating, and gets 9/1 odds here.  His superb bloodlines indicate he should have little trouble with an extra furlong, so look out for this guy…

JOHNNY Z has just a maiden win to his credit, but the chestnut colt by somewhat obscure Kentucky sire Mr. Z has been quite competitive in four graded stakes races and certainly doesn’t figure that far off these on paper despite the 11/1 tag.  Trained by babies7 of the DerekCarlson stable group, he comes to this off just a 4-week break.

READY FAN is just 2 of 6 lifetime, but his solid 3rd less than three lengths behind DEPLORABLE TB in his 2-turn debut looked strong enough for vertain9 of Mano Racing Stables to give his brown Dansili colt a shot at the big money.  Will need a fairly large jump forward to make the 12/1 price pay.

ENVENOM (11/1) took a nice 3-for-3 record into the Grade 1 End Of The Line Futurity, but couldn’t hang with that outstanding field, many of which are here.  The grey son of Arrogate has the bloodlines that say “classic winner”, but he’ll need to turn that last result around for philippines of Kaner Racing Stables.

Oooooooooohhhhh kayyyyyy….  This is where I’m supposed to give some sort of super-wise advice on how to bet this thing…  Yeah.

Well, I have less than zero clue!

So, I bought a bunch of fortune cookies…  Here’s what they told me:

Gee, thanks for the “help”…

Umm, err…  Good luck all!!
