History Made in the Breeders’ Bowl Classic!!!!

Back in 2024, a 29/1 longshot ran in the Breeders’ Bowl Classic and settled into a mid-field position and came charging to win the race by a half-stride.  That winner was a horse named He Wants Guns.  This Into Mischief x Curling x Tapit bred runner came back to defend his championship in the 2025 running of the Bowl Classic.  He ran a closer fifth for much of the race and was unable to advance significantly from there but did finish second as he passed other tiring horses.

Slew Mischief took the win and was also sired by Into Mischief, with the back end comprised of Seattle Slew x Street Cry.  In this race, he paralleled He Wants Guns for the first half of the race before rolling on by the returning champ to take the win.

Now, it’s 2026 and both horses come back into the Breeders’ Bowl Classic, each trying to achieve what no other horse before them has accomplished…winning two Bowl Classic races.   As the starting gate opened and the horses thundered out of the gate, both on the outer most slots with Slew Mischief in post 17 and He Wants Guns in gate 19.  The pair would run side-by-side for the first quarter of the race, a bit over 3-strides off the leader, holding mid-field position.

They would hold their spots to the midway point of the 10-furlng race, drifting a bit over 5-lengths behind the leader.  Around the final turn, they both made their moves, still running together, and passing horses, moving to the third and fourth positions as they entered the stretch.

He Wants Guns dug in and poured it on, picking off the leaders until he became the leader.  He gradually pulled away from the field to win by a margin of over a stride with foe Slew Mischief in his shadows, finishing second.

Congratulations to He Wants Guns….the first horse ever to win the Breeders’ Bowl Classic race twice!!!!   Congrats also to owner Douchman2 for a great achievement!!!

Wouldn’t it be great to see both of these horses compete again in this race next year????
