Curious Candy Works Out Rail Trip

With the rain a threat in the early part of the week, the trainers were relieved to see that early forecasts, for once, were correct and that race day came up clear with the track listed as firm for the running of the mile long High Flyer Stakes for two year olds. The full field of fourteen horses paraded uneasily towards the starting gate, some getting antsy during the post parade and fidgeting in the gate while they waited for the rest of the field to load in. After tense moments of waiting, the gates clanged open and the bell rang and the fourteen two year olds were off.

Out to a slight lead by just a head was The Stardust (ENG), owned by greatnames, who was maintaining that short lead over Gypsy Thunder, trained by wally456. Three-fourth lengths back in third was Galavanized Anchor (AUS) who is owned and trained by jeffdrew. Running along in fourth and fifth were Raging Menace and Curious Candy, who are trained and owned by teerades and lopiccolo respectively. Trailing the field early on was ksparrow22 owned Sandbone Stealer (IRE) who was trailing early by five and a half lengths.

The Stardust (ENG) lengthened her lead slightly over Gypsy Thunder to one-fourth of a length with the other horses nipping at his heels. Curious Candy had begun to move up on the rail now and was now sneaking into third. Longshot Raging Menace was able to maintain his fourth place position, but with Galavanized Anchor (AUS) slipping back into fifth. Pickled, owned by prufrock was now running just behind in sixth. Still trailing the leader by ten and a half lengths now was Sandbone Stealer (IRE).

As the field was making their way towards the stretch The Stardust (NEG) continue to maintain the lead by one-fourth of a length over Curious Candy who had now snuck up on the rail and into second pushing Gypsy Thunder back into third. Raging Menace continued to hold firm in fourth with Galvanized Anchor (AUS) in fifth but showing signs of fading. Brightvalr owned Scientific Proof (IRE) was making his move now and had moved up into sixth with Rififi, trained by super6 now in seventh. Holding onto position in eighth was Basestealer, trained by yunkai. Making a move from the back of the field and launching into ninth was bautista trained Trent Rezner. Moving forward slightly now was pre-race favorite, tesio owned, Valyrian Steel, who had six and one-fourth lengths worth of ground to make up. Moving up into eleventh was Saint Viviant, owned by super30. Dropping far back into twelfth now was Pickled, also with theoc owned and trained Newport Quake (JPN) sliding back into thirteenth. Still trailing the field as they came for home was Sandbone Stealer (IRE).

Now the horses were in the stretch and it was Curious Candy who made a big move on the inside rail to sneak past front runner The Stardust (ENG) to steal the lead under jockey B. Barnes by one and three-fourth lengths with a lifetime best speed figure of eighty-seven. Finishing second was The Stardust (ENG) with longshot Racing Menace getting up for third.

Also rans include: Scientific Proof (IRE), Gypsy Thunder, Galavanized Anchor (AUS), Saint Vivant, Trent Rezner, Rififi, Valyrian Steel, Basestealer, Newport Quake (JPN), Pickled, and Sandbone Stealer (IRE).
