Gulf Pk 1

From Gulfstream Park in sunny Hallandale,  Florida,  the Elite Racing Club presents its monthly stakes affair,  the A.P. Indy.  Contested at nine furlongs over what should be a fast dirt oval,  a field of nine club runners,  including an upstart filly,  will battle it out for the winner’s share of the $100,000 purse on tap,  and to be the focus of the raucous post race celebrations the club has become known for.  The winning owner/trainer will also collect the lion’s share of the stakes bonus points to be awarded,  ultimately deciding a club champion.
.
After his usual deliberations,  the handicapper settled on amir‘s stakes winning LUNAR ALLEY as the 3/1 morning line favorite.  Fresh off a solid Equinics management effort in his maiden voyage,  summerset sends out the second choice at 9/2,  NOW N LATER.  The oddsmaker had a tougher time separating the fivesome of MOUGAL MONARCH from the jbcri group,  LUFTICUS WAY from new face aladar,  INTO BREEDING from the always competitive harrylan conglomerate,  CULT CINEMA from the usually dangerous dontbetonme,  and THE GOOD WARRIOR from the uber successful mightyforego stable.  The field is rounded out by johnkarczewski‘s ambitious filly,  TOUTANT at 12/1,  and new member jb3commish gets in on the action,  albeit with the longest shot on the board,  the 164/1  ALL TAKEN.
.
These ERC events have proven to be tightly contested,  and this get together should live up to that standard.  Maybe a Bluegrass Derby hopeful (or two) will surface when the dust settles.  Let’s take a closer look at them in post position order and see what the figures may reveal.

 MOUGAL MONARCH                              ENG     3M     jbcri38             R Bokie     5/1
.
Leading them out of the tunnel is this bay colt,  who exits a late running score in the Polar Guy listed stakes at 7.5 furlongs,  drilling a 94 SP# in a last to first move.  Farhh fellow,  based on the graded placed sim he-mare Maliluce (by Malibu Moon),  was an even 3rd one before that in the ERC Awesome Again at 8.5 panels in his 2017 finale,  dropping an 88 SP#.  His prior try was a closing 3rd in a NW2L allowance at 7 furlongs,  drawing an 85 SP# in a mid pack trip.  Runner from the jbcri38 racing group stretches out here which may help his late running tactics;  improving sort can  be right there on top try.

NOW N LATER                                               KY     3M     rac10             R Zamora     9/2
.
Scratch bred First Samurai flash (by Seattle Slew) flew home for the money last out in aNW3L allowance at this route,  spanking a 98 SP# from the back of the pack.  Bay colt showed some late interest for 4th one back of that in the same conditions at a mile,  smacking a 90 SP#.  One before that he was a gaining 2nd in the same condition,  also at a mile,  sticking a 91 SP#.  Summerset protege makes his first stakes appearance,  could be involved in the decision with smooth trip and further improvement.

 TOUTANT                                                           KY     3F     johnkarczewski57     N McMurtry     12/1
.
Hailing from the johnkarczewski57 stable is this sleek daughter of Street Sense,  out of the sim mare Chasing Our Tails (by Point Given),  who seeks her third straight win after taking a pair of hot race allowances,  the latest at this distance,  the former at a mile,  throwing 80 and 85 SP#’s in stalking trips against male opposition.  She was 2nd best one back of those in an open maiden at 8.5 furlongs facing her own kind,  tossing an 83 SP# from mid pack.  Also making her stakes debut here,  should be close to the pace facing many stretch runners,  could survive for a share despite stepping up.

LUNAR ALLEY                                               SAF     3M     amir1648         W Baumann     3/1
.
The morning line favorite exits a better than it looks 11th in the G3 The Scam at this trip,  banking a 94 SP# from the far outside post.  Flower Alley flicker,  out of the sim mare Lunar Maria (by Malibu Moon),  came on for 3rd one before that in the Killerzandglitterz listed stakes at 9.5 furlongs,  bagging a 92 SP# in a mid pack try.  Handsome chestnut colt won the Orca listed at 8.5 panels in his previous start,  bashing a 97 SP# from just off the early leaders.  Runner from the amir1648 racing operation will try to get the jump on the deep closers,  should appreciate better post here.

LUFTIKUS WAY                                           WV     3M     aladar21         S Ledwith     5/1
.
Gleaming chestnut colt faded to 4th in latest,  a residency stakes at this distance,  nabbing a 91 SP# in a pace pressing performance.  Scratch bred Luftikus lad (by Cherokee Run),  took the Royal Sovereign listed at five panels in his prior outing,  nailing a 91 SP# in a stalking run.  One before that he was second best in the Bad Leroy Brown listed at 5 furlongs,  notching an 88 SP# from just off the pace setters.  Could find himself on the lead with this group,  may bode well for new shooter aladar21 – welcome to the club !

 INTO INBREEDING                                 KY     3M     harrylanlow49         M Grunhard     5/1
.
Boisterous bay colt looks for his third straight victory after getting the money in a local bred allowance at 8.5 furlongs,  smashing a 95 SP#  in a stalking trip.  Into Mischief imp,  out of the sim mare Street Maker (by Street Cry),  won an open maiden at a mile from the tough fourteen post one back of that,  slashing to an 89 SP# surviving an early pace duel.  He was 2nd in an open maiden at 7.5 panels in his prior run,  slinging an 83 SP# while never far from the front.  One of the few with early speed in this heat,  could get loose on an uncontested lead and keep his perfect exacta results for the always competitive harrylanlow49 racing stable.

ALL TAKEN                                                      KY     3M     jb3commish         B Larsen     164/1
.
New club member jb3commish makes his first foray into the ERC stakes’ wars with this big bay colt,  who was 3rd in his first race “off the cut” in a $2,000 claimer,  getting 3rd with a 55 SP#.  Scratch bred Overanalyze oater (by Cape Canaveral),  was a well beaten 8th one before that in a NW2L allowance at 5.5 panels,  gaining a 63 SP# while always last returning to the dirt.  His previous outing was a 4th on the weeds in a NW1x allowance at 4.5 furlongs,  grabbing a 56 SP#.  Stretches out here into first route try and steps way up in class,  handicapper has no respect at 164/1 on the morning line – and welcome to the club !

CULT CINEMA                                               NY     3M     dontbetonme2     B F Abman     6/1
.
Shrewd owner/trainer dontbetonme2 sends out this ghostly roan colt off an OK 5th in the Remember Morgadio listed stakes at 6.5 furlongs,  copping an 88 SP# moving from last of eight.  Golden Ticket guy,  out of the sim mare This Is Cult (by Tapit),  won a local bred allowance one before that at three quarters of a mile,  cashing a 91 SP# from the back of the pack.  His previous start was a disappointing 11th in the Pilgrims Charter listed at 6.5 panels,  casting an 82 SP# without any impact.  $150,000 claim has won four of six for new owner;  you can never count this stable out of the decision,  will be closing late on best effort.

THE GOOD WARRIOR                         JPN     3G     mightyforego29     R Pollard     6/1
.
Watching them all exit the paddock is this brown gelding,  who won “first off the cut” in a NW2L allowance at this distance,  flashing a 96 SP#  stalking the pace in a much improved effort.  Majestic Warrior mister,  out of the graded placed sim mare Deep Down Good (by Deep Impact),  was a dull 9th one before that in the same condition at a mile,  flipping a 78 SP# while never involved.  His prior try was a no impact 7th in the same condition,  also at a mile,  floating a 77 SP#.  Stretch runner from the formidable mightyforego29 racing operation makes his initial stakes try,  could surprise if he improves off last outing.

Thanks Ric, Nicely done. Handicapper should not have any respect for ALL TAKEN he is way out classed in this field, but I wanted to be part of the ERC party. Good Luck to the rest of you and save my rider a brew or two He will get there eventually.

    • Thanks…yours ran great and probably would have won if the race was a tad longer.
