Ten 3yo’s Help Celebrate Bargie Day Contesting THE HUSTLIN HOOSIER-(G2)
Saturday is Bargie Day, where the Bargain Bred Racing Series (BBRS) celebrates the accomplishments of most successful runners from the past season.
As part of the celebration, the BBRS sponsors a few Graded Stakes races at Louisiana where all Sim runners are eligible to participate.
One of those races is THE HUSTLIN HOOSIER-(G2); a race for sophomore runners going 1 1/8 mile on the main dirt oval. The timing and class of the race should attract some formidable runners, and a win could possibly catapult the winner onto the BLUEGRASS DERBY-(G1) path.
10 horses will contest this much-anticipated race. Let’s take a look at the field:
1) GUNSLINGER JUSTICE (8/1)
3yo Bay Gelding
8 – 6 – 1 – 1 (1.000 ITM) – $229,055
Jockey: N Lawton
Owner: trifecta
STAR GUITAR x SEATTLE SLEW x NUREYEV
By samhouston in Louisiana
The Louisiana-bred is staying right at home to make his jump into the Graded Stakes swimming pool. Class will certainly be the biggest question for the colt who has yet to run against open competition, opting to run every race of his career here at Louisiana against state-bred competition. However, with six wins in eight races, and a brisk 98SP in his last race over an off track, he will draw some interest at the betting windows, and will certainly be a factor down the stretch.
2) COMEBACK HEREFORD (18/1)
3yo Bay Colt
9 – 3 – 1 – 0 (.444 ITM) – $79,000
Jockey: D Joines
Owner: goldstable
FUSAICHI PEGASUS x HOLY ROMAN EMPEROR x RAHY
By irishquest in Kentucky
After starting his career on the turf, the colt has won his last two races after switching over to the main track facing open allowance company. He has never stretched out to nine furlongs before, but his latest run featured a 92SP running a quarter mile less than the demand of Saturday’s event. The 18/1 price may be compelling enough for bettors to take a longshot on this runner.
3) FORTY SILENCE (8/1)
3yo Bay Colt
5 – 2 – 2 – 0 (.800 ITM) – $73,300
Jockey: J Benisz
Owner: tfon24
FORTY TALES x I’LL HAVE ANOTHER x SUNDAY SILENCE
By tfon24 in New York
The connections have to be encouraged with his latest performance – a three-quarter length victory in a restricted allowance event, running a 98SP in the process. Sporting a 4 of 5 record on-the-board, the only blemish was the colt’s debut back in October, and that was a 4th place finish. The jump to a Grade Two event will be the biggest question for the colt to answer on Saturday.
4) GO WEST YOU GHOST (6/1)
3yo Bay Colt
8 – 2 – 1 – 2 (.625 ITM) – $79,305
Jockey: L Radzinski
Owner: snape
GHOSTZAPPER x GONE WEST x SADLER’S WELLS
By snape in Kentucky
The connections took a shot in the MOVIELAND FUTURITY-(G1) to end last season. The GHOSTZAPPER colt did pass other horses down the stretch, but finished six lengths back of the winner. He stayed in California for his most recent month at the beginning of February in THE SCAM-(G3). Where he finished closer to the lead, while running a similar mid-90’s SP.
5) A.P. IS AWESOME (8/1)
3yo Brown Colt
6 – 2 – 0 – 0 (.333 ITM) – $65038
Jockey: A Roling
Owner: spiderman1
AWESOME AGAIN x A.P. INDY x NIJINSKY 2ND
By spiderman in Kentucky
While the colt me be struggling to reach his lofty expectations, he has shown some signs of a champion horse to this point in his career. It took him until his third race to get within the top three, but that was a convincing win run over seven furlongs on an off track. Now he heads back to Louisiana after a disappointing 7th place finish his last time out in the KOWBOY DIRT ROUTE-(ST).
6) YANKEE ERIN (6/1)
3yo Bay Colt
8 – 3 – 1 – 2 (.750 ITM) – $107,975
Jockey: B Child
Owner: siama
AMERICAN PHAROAH x GIANT’S CAUSEWAY x KINGMAMBO
By siama in Kentucky
The American Pharoah colt is heading into Saturday’s event on a two-race winning streak against Restricted Allowance company. His direct jump into G2 territory will cause some concern, but the latest SP number shows he can hang in with top rivals. If the numbers continue to rise, the colt will have a chance to factor at the wire.
7) MEREK (6/1)
3yo Light Grey Colt
6 – 2 – 2 – 2 (1.000 ITM) – $75,090
Jockey: A O’Brien
Owner: silvercas
VICTORY GALLOP x UNBRIDLED’S SONG x SECRETARIAT
By lenny271 in Turkey
The only overseas-bred runner in Saturday’s contest boasts a perfect mark finding the top three in every race to this point in his career. His latest performance came in late January where the colt ran 3rd in the LASS APPEAL DIRT ROUTE-(ST) in Indiana. Dropping back 1/16 of a mile this time, the colt is looking for the first win of his sophomore campaign.
8) BRUSHWITHGREATNESS (7-1)
3yo Bay Colt
7 – 3 – 0 – 2 (.714 ITM) – $88,400
Jockey: V Jef
Owner: slow
MAJESTICPERFECTON x CONGRATS x BROAD BRUSH
By slow in Kentucky
The colt is heading back to the dirt after two attempts on the turf returned some formidable results facing Allowance company. The latest run was a strong 93SP, but he finished six lengths back of the lead in late January. The uncertainty facing this runner has to be the addition of an extra furlong to what he has ran his last four races.
9) UNION CONSULATE (3/1)
3yo Bay Colt
9 – 5 – 1 – 2 (.889 ITM) – $369,470
Jockey: R Radzinski
Owner: skipaway
UNION RAGS x MORE THAN READY x STORM CAT
By skipaway in Kentucky
The Union Rags colt scored a graded win in the FABER COLLEGE JUVENILE-(G3) back in early July. He has remained remarkably consistent with the only blemish on his record occurring last October in the SPARKLING WINE STAKES-(G1). The colt is a well-regarded sprinter ranked in the top-20 of the respective division. His latest run was exceptional running a 102SP 75K, State-Restricted Allowance stretching out to a mile – a number that would certainly be competitive among the best at this level. The oddsmakers have rewarded this consistency installing the colt as the heavy favorite in this race on Saturday.
10) DEN NOT DON (8/1)
3yo Bay Colt
10 – 4 – 1 – 0 (.500 ITM) – $118,935
Jockey: M Staples
Owner: graywolf47
DEN’S LEGACY x SAINT LIAM x GIANT’S CAUSEWAY
By graywolf45 in Kentucky
The graywolf consortium has to be happy with this Oklahoma-bred runner who captured his first stakes victory last time out. While it will take a much faster SP number to take this contest, it looks as though he has found his stride as of late. Another horse where distance may be the primary concern, possibly for the opposite concern, as his latest race was won at 1 5/16 mile.
MEREK appears to be due for a win, and his class and experience with long distances certainly bode well for Saturday.
While the last two results have been disappointing, GO WEST YOU GHOST has the class to compete with the best amongst the division. He will certainly be accounted for in the stretch drive.
UNION CONSULATE has to overcome the distance question of adding another furlong. However, his victories earlier on in his career show he is the most accomplished horse of the bunch.
COMEBACK HEREFORD is the clear choice for the BTB LONGSHOT SPECIAL, and a career performance should pay off big.
