The Challenge- Week 5

Took a while but we finally got a win.  Still struggling but considering the lack of talent I started with, I’m hoping that the stable is now turning the corner.

I tossed ANDREA’S into a $10,000 claiming race on the dirt to see what she could do on the surface, since she had only one previous start on the soil.  It turned out not well as she finished sixth, a good dozen lengths back while running 9 furlongs.  I’ll take her back to the turf and search for a low end claiming race for her in the next start.  Got no BP’s and 1 G-Card

MONEY BUYS POWER ran for the second time for the stable and left a higher priced starter allowance race and I entered into a $3,000 claiming race.  At 4/1, he was the third choice and when leaving the gate, he took position in the middle of the field.  He took his time and ran steadily to move to the lead and win by a half stride.  Earned 25 BP’s for the week and another G-card

BARK AT THE RAIN also made his second start for the stable and went off at 14/1.  He ran in the $7,500 claiming race at 7 furlongs and shot out of the gate and ran on the lead.  He was pressured throughout the race and had very little left in the stretch run, tiring back into fifth.   I’ve reset the early speed setting from Jockey to 85 in hopes this will help preserve some energy in his nextstart.  No BP’s as travel consumed the small amount he would have earned.  Did get an F-card.

One addition was made to the farm.  I picked up HALF LOCO from the auction for $5,001.   He’s a six year old sired by Half Ours with bloodline connections to Kingmambo and Alydar.  He’s a consistent point earner as he’s been ITM 23 of 27 races and has a knack of winning as he has collected 11 victories.    His last start was the first time he ran in a claiming race and that was at a very price $100,000 where he finished 2nd.   He’s still firing off speeds in the 90-range and can compete on the turf or dirt.   For now, he’ll sit in the farm until I have an opening in the stable.

I now have 4 F-cards and 14-G cards.  BP’s now total 56.
