The Woody Ash Special Stakes Newmarket

Trainer Wndaway3 left Newmarket punters dissapointed on Saturday after making off with the featured The Woody Ash Special Stakes with unraced 20/1 shot Millview Twins. The unfancied Tapit 2yo, made his debut a winning one and pulled of a great training coup for his connections.

As the gates opened, 3/1 favourite Junior Ewing strode into the lead and quckly gained a length and a half on the field. Second favourite CU Later V going for the Fusion stable sat back in 5th about 2/12 lengths off the pace playing a waiting game, ant Milview twins was right by him tucked away on the inside. Entering the final furlong both CU Later and Millview both made their moves at the same time. It wasnt obvious at first that these efforts were the winning ones as the favourite looked like he was going well in the lead and might take it. That was until about 100 yards from the line Junior Ewing emptied remakably and faded drastically. the noise from the crowd went up in anticipation of the well backed CU Later V getting the win, but he hadn`t beaten off the gutsy Millview Twins. A huge groan went up as the outsider stuck his brave head out an got up by a short head. the fast fading Junior Ewing just held on for third place.

So Millview Twins makes a stakes winning debut and congratulations must go his trainer Wyndaway3. Both the winner and runner-up recorded speed ratings of 72, and it will be interesting to see how far up the grades the winner can go.
