The Poor Mona Lisa Handicap Grade 3
Saturdays feature race from Kansas looked a competitive 9 furlongs grade 3 on the card, but it turned out to be a bit of a procession for the Minnslew trained Impossible Girl. The 4yo Forty Niner mare, having only her 10th start, put up a lifetime best performance to record her first Stakes victory, and silence the critics who questiond whether she would stay.(Me) As the gates opened Mt Pyemore took the lead from Maybe Exceptional and Impossible Girl settled with the 2nd horse a couple of lengths up. Things remained the same untill the 5th furlong when Impossible Girl smoothly made a move and going into furlong 6 she had headed the leader, who began to fade badly. When she struck the front, it was obvious Impossible Girl was going much the best and she quickly ended this as a competitive event. The race was on for second and Chopping Hill stayed on well without ever troubling the leader to take 2nd beaten 21/2 lengths. Openina,in third was really the only horse that looked a little unlucky. Outpaced from the off, she showed real finishing speed at the end to nick an unlikley looking place 31/4 lengths off the winner, and its clear she was crying out for a little more ground. My conclusion after witnessing this race was the winner has improved into a real nice horse. She hasn`t got too many miles on the clock, is beautifully bred and this grade3 may not be her only graded victory.Trainer Minnslew has a nice filly on his hands and im sure he is gonna have some fun with her in the comming months. Congratulations to him.
