Smugglers Shines in Henpecked Stakes

Smugglers Catch put up a scorching display of speedy front running to win France`s feature race The Henpecked Stakes on Saturday. As the gates flew open Smugglers Catch, trained by Zeplin jumped out in front, with only Smouldering Street quick enough to stay within a length of him. By the end of the third furlong however, the effort required to stay close to Smugglers began to take its toll and Smouldering Street fell away leaving Smugglers with an uncontested lead.

With 2 furlongs to run the deep closers began to make their run. It was not the favourite that tore out the pack as expected, instead it was left to the Seinfield1 runner Happy Festivvus to make a race out of it and he tore after the leader. Despite puting in a devestating closing run, the line came in time for Smugglers Catch, and he took home to EAAA the winning share of the $70000 purse. The favourite for the race Saintstown stayed on into third, without ever looking dangerous and for me was the dissapointment for the race.

As a reward for winning his second Stakes race in a row, Smugglers is now rated 14 in the older horses sprint dirt division. If he continues in his current form, who`s to say a place in the top 10 is not possible.
