Two Year Old Texas Turf Stakes

This Saturday, Texas will host The Independent Star Special.  This Stakes is to be run over five and one half furlongs on the firm turf track.  Five solid contenders have shown up to vie for the $45,000 in purse money.  This race is limited to 2 year old fillies and mares so maybe we will see a future star run here.

SMALL TOWN HUSSY(KY) (9/2) Trainer 42ndstreet jumps this Strategic Mission mare up into stakes competition off her maiden win.  In her maiden win, she beat out nine others over six furlongs with a figure of 62.  She is a solid closer and should enjoy the turf course but this may be too much of a challenge for her.

MISS MOORS(KY) (4/1) Trainer parramatta sends this one in off a five furlong maiden victory.  The win came off the switch from turf to dirt and earned her a 64 speed figure.  She was able to handle an early challenge and go gate to wire to win.  Dehere sired her and can get good young runners.  She heads back to the turf Saturday and looks to steal this race on the front end.

STAR OF LONHRO(AUS) (9/5) Trainer punterdoug decided to skip the maiden races and enter this Lonhro mare into a stakes race to start her career.  Her sire has had some solid turf runners but it is tough to tell if this one will come out running or not.  She could surprise me but others seem better suited here.

VISION OF DELIGHT(IRE) (5/1) Trainer houtexinc brings this one in off a fast maiden win in her first start.  That race was on the turf track and she ran a solid 71 speed figure straight from the breeding shed.  Her bloodlines scream turf and the trainer has her well placed today.

ANGEL IN CHICAGO(KY) (8/5)  Trainer olympiafie sends this Storm Boot mare in for her third career race.  In her first race she ran a 70 speed figure and won her maiden.  After that, she attempted a allowance race over five and a half furlongs but could did not have enough distance to use her late kick.  She may suffer the same fate today on the switch to turf.

My take:  MISS MOORS is my pick to steal the lead here and get the perfect slow pace trip to the winner’s circle.  VISION OF DELIGHT must be respected on her very fast 71 first out turf win but there is no horse to keep MISS MOORS honest on the front end.
