Challenge Update, Five Runners This Week

Five runners this week and got a nice fist full of BP’s.  Also drew an F-card which breaks a long streak of G-cards.   A very long way to go to get to the 1,000 BP goal by year end.

Results

CLOCKED OFF got in his first start for my stable after being claimed for $3,500.  I found a small allowance field of and took advantage of entering him but put him back to the dirt where he is much better.  In the four horse field, he was not competitive at 8/1 odds but he did finish third and brought home 17 BP’s, which also included the non-ending G-card.   I like the 92 speed and look forward to his next start.

After starting her career with a second, DESPERATE MEASURE shortened up in distance from 8.25 furlongs to 5.5 furlongs and took on a slight drop from the $7,500 claim price to $4,000.  The result was a fourth place finish where she lacked any punch in the race.  Her second place finish wasn’t that special as she ran second all the way and lost ground at the end.  7 BP’s was the reward but got a changeup from the long streak of G-cards by getting a step up to an F-card.

KID ALLIANCE ran in a 7.5 furlong starter allowance and the distance did not look like enough.   He rallied the second half of the race moving from 10th place and 9 strides back to finish third and about 3 strides off the lead and a very impressive 96 speed.   A nice 12 BP’s picked up and back to the G-card collection.

MAKE IT SPARKLE joined the stable via a claim in which he won the race and I opted to test him in an allowance race.  The field was rather small with only five entered and he ran at a mile distance, the first time in his career he tried the route.  He ran third most of the way but finished one spot lower in fourth.   The speed was good with a 93 charted so maybe I’ll target a higher level claim race next time out.   Travel costs ate up any BP’s and a G-card was drawn from the deck.

Running his fastest speed of the year with a 98, OPPORTUNITY CALLS ran  a nice 7f starter allowance race.  The sprint was only the fifth time in his career and it was a fine one for the late closer who finished third.   No shipping costs on this one as he’s raced three times for me and all have been in Florida.  The payout was 15 BP’s and a ragged over used G-card.

Stable Changes

I think Desperate Measure can make a rebound, but for now the horse will get a rest at the farm.  Filling the open stable position is FIREWATER FOOL.  This four year old colt has had a decent turf career but most of his starts have been in allowance company.  Recent performance has been poor and the claiming level will be a much better place.

Totals

SIRE CARDS:

Four G-cards were picked from the deck giving me a total of 1 F-cards for the week.  7-F cards and 5 G-card.  I may eventually trade up to a pair of E-cards to and get a sire card to breed with, anyway, that is the thought for now.

BP’s

51 BP’s make a feeling that a jackpot was just hit.  Not quite but a very welcome boost of the total in this 1,000 challenge to 574.
