Cavalcade Cup Juvenile Turf Review

The fastest time recorded by a Juvenile in all the Cavalcade Cup races was recorded by Buddha’s Royal Pet in the Juvenile Turf, it didn’t quite match the jaw dropping 104 recorded in the Breeder’s Bowl version but most trainers wish they had a two year old that could run that fast.

Buddha’s Royal Pet looked fantastic in the paddock catching the eye with his light blue roan colour, he walked out well and despite this being only his third start he was calm and alert unlike some of the others, Fantastic Wells was very colty in the paddock and his mind was obviously elsewhere and this in turn wound up Fasterthanu who got very sweaty in the parade.

As they were loaded into the gates Eleven Euros was very mulish going in and delayed the start which probably didn’t help Lowlander who was in the gate awhile and was probably too relaxed when the gate opened as he was half a stride behind the field.

Once the gates opened Fasterthanu and With Your Cries were sharply out, with Fasterthanu racing very keenly and soon caught up in a speed dual with With Your Cries who got the upper hand, on the outside Straightandstrong was keeping pace with the two of them whilst out the back Fantastic Wells who was still thinking about the fillies in the next race was slowly into his stride as was Eleven Euros who was nearly as mulish coming out as going in.

As the race unfolded the winner was sat in behind the leading bunch and he moved into a challenging position round the top turn following through C You At The Wire before kicking on as they hit the straight and after that the race was never in doubt.

As you can imagine connections were ecstatic and it’s drinks all round tonight!

Analysis:

Buddha’s Royal Pet: broke well, tracked the pace, challenged rounding the turn, took the lead entering the straight, won easily.

C You At The Wire: raced just behind the leaders, moved into the lead around the turn, quickly headed entering the straight, ran on well but couldn’t match the pace of the winner.

Kyle’s Ojai Gold: Settled mid field, made some headway round the turn, stayed on past beaten horses to take third, delighted with my cheapy claim!

Lowlander: slowly away and raced towards the rear, made late headway to finish best of the rest.

With Your Cries: pulled his way to the lead but couldn’t change gear, stayed on best of the front runners

Rock Mining: Ran better that expected as trip thought to be beyond him.

Yeah: raced up with the pace, couldn’t pick up entering the straight.

Straightandstrong: raced keenly, faded entering the straight.

Fasterthanu: wasted his energy vying for the lead, faded entering the straight.

Fantastic Wells: adopted his favourite running position at the rear of the field, never picked up, capable of better.

Roaming: couldn’t handle the early pace and never sighted.

Eleven Euros: slowly away and never at the races

Alpha Grey: raced mid field, faded badly, didn’t stay

Rock Of Cashel: Actually ran well for her and finished higher up the field than I expected.

Immutable: stumbled at the start, never sighted, is better than this,

Magpie’s Prize: couldn’t get up with the pace and sulked
