Pace makes race for Buffy8

By ITCH

Buffy8’s SPITFIRE MK I ($9.40) took control of the Wings of a Dove Cap right from the start and never was seriously threatened in posting his first career stakes victory in his first career stakes start.

The old adage “pace makes the race” was particularly true in this $75,000, 1 1/16-mile test for 2yos, as the field of seven was loaded with nothing but deep closers. Jockey M. Hoge pounced on this advantage, sending Buffy8’s Tiznow colt right to the front. Nursed along on an easy lead, Spitfire MK I had plenty left in the lane to hold off Bobo’s KEPLER PASSION, who ranged up to put pressure on the winner down the lane, but never seriously threatened.

It was a disappointing fourth-place finish for Tbgifted’s co-favored colt, ACHAEMENES, whose chances surely were compromised by the fact that there was no pace for him to run at.
