Stars Of Libra Gunning For 17th Stakes Win In The Alythaw Act Special

Stars of libra gunning for 17th stakes win in the alythaw act special

Five fillies and three mares will be trying to negotiate a mile and three eighths over the dirt to win the lion’s share of a $50,000 purse here in Texas. The forecast is hot and dry, as usual. So chances are that they will be running on a fast track.

  1. TATESHAFT – 12/1 – This is a 3YO filly by Mineshaft racing for the bigtate03 stable. She made her debut on March 11th of this year, and makes her 12th start August 20th. With little rest since her career started, her only win came in a MSW, but has finished in the money in 55% of her races. She will find older company much tougher here than she did in the NW2x allowance last time out. She won’t like the distance, and will be done on the backstretch. She would be tough in a restricted allowance at a mile after 7 weeks off.
  2. RAEANNAH – 7/1 – This is a 4YO filly by Danehill out of the mare Nine Rae. Running for the tisjuliet stable, she’s a two time stakes winner, and although she has never run this specific distance, she ran well at a mile and a half in a NW4x allowance. So I doubt the distance will give her any trouble. It looks as though she came out of her race on April 23rd at less than perfect health. She hasn’t fared well since, but her last two weren’t at her best surface and distance. She could give the two favorites a run for their money.
  3. OUR VOTES(FR) – 21/1 – This 6YO mare by Glaros(FR) races for the geauxfer2 stable. With only nine races under her belt, her only win came in a MSW. Having never run over 8.5 furlongs, there is a chance she will like the distance, this being her first run at more than a mile on dirt. But even if she does, it is doubtful she’ll be able to stand up to the competition here.
  4. SOMETHINGLIKETHAT – 2/1 – This is a 6YO mare by Forty Niner out of the mare Doctor Colony. Racing for the rtribbett stable, she is a three time stakes winner with earnings of over 200k. The surface and distance suit her, so no problems there. With 9 wins in 42 races, she’s no stranger to the winner’s circle. She’s at that stage of her career where you wonder if her recent decline is the end, but she has always run in cycles, and judging by her past, she is just about due to cycle back up.
  5. TOO MUCH SPEAKING – 11/1 – Doing her damage for the kyinvader stable, this 4YO filly by Speak has won 4 of 8 races since being claimed for 4k. But only her last win was a non MCOS victory, winning a NW1x allowance in South Dakota. The distance shouldn’t be a problem for her as she has run well going as far as 2 miles. Her competition could be a problem however, as this will be her first stakes try, and it might be too soon.
  6. STARS OF LIBRA – 2/1 – On December 29th, 2001, this 6YO mare by Grand Slam began her career for the syo3 stable right here at this track. She won that race by 4 ¼ lengths, and has been getting her picture took ever since. She has won 20 of 48 races, including 16 stakes wins. Besides her win FTO, every one of her wins since has been from 9 to 11 furlongs on the dirt. She shows no signs of slowing up, winning 4 of 8 stakes this year. The one to beat.
  7. FRAN’S CRAFTY GAL – 9/2 – Running for the rsb stable, this 4YO filly by Crafty Prospector has won 4 of 7 races this year. In her only two stakes tries, both this year, she has been badly beaten. In the first, it appeared she came back to the barn in less than stellar shape. The other was LTO, but in neither did she run anything close to her best. Look for her to improve on her last race. Not enough to win perhaps, but could get a share of the purse.
  8. EMPIRE DANCER – 6/1 – This 3YO filly by Empire Maker has been doing her damage for the kelsobarn stable. She’s won 4 of 15 races, and has finished ITM in 10 of the 15. A two time stakes winner, she won a stakes at this distance three races back. A really talented filly, this will be her first race against older females. Not all 3Yo’s are ready for older company at this level. Some are. It will be interesting to see how this one responds to the challenge.
