Eight sprinters face off in Saturday’s feature which will be run at the distance of seven furlongs over the Juan Peron Turf Course. Let’s take a look at the field from the hedge out.
Now I’m The Boss breaks from the ace for trainer Timmyhustn. The handsome Gone West three year old won three consecutive stakes to close out 2004 and open the new year. The front runner has failed to sustain his good speed recently and needs to find a bit more stamina to score here.
Six Day War seems equally adept over either surface at any distance up to and including a mile. The huge (17.2 hands) War Chant colt won his first stake last time out in a South Dakota turf sprint at this exact distance and seeks to make it two straight. Trainer Sportnwood has tabbed Kim Roth to ride his stalker.
Emanone’s Strike’em Slew makes his turf debut. This is one very talented three year old and may be a nice play at 8-1. The son of Straight Strike is a graded winner on the dirt and only needs to handle the green to be a big threat. Can he do it?
Veteran turf mare Funkaneer makes her fifty-sixth career start on Saturday. The busy daughter of Globalize has been very consistent throughout her career as she approaches the $400,000 mark in lifetime earnings. Hightimes five year old is a multiple stakes winner and is graded placed. One of several with a legitimate shot in here.
Favored Explorer is another making his turf bow. This will also be his first start for his new connections who recently purchased the son of Line In The Sand at auction for $2,752,005. He is graded placed on the dirt and trainer Click wants to find out right away whether or not his new charge can handle the grass. What do you think?
Mickelsonn is another recent multimillion dollar auction buy. Trainer Emit tried his new colt on the dirt last time out but is switching him back to the turf this week. The classy son of Dehere and the Forty Niner mare Forty Thieves is a stakes winner on both surfaces and his crafty conditioner will undoubtedly have him ready.
Another tough, consistent racehorse is Clever Connection. Simond2’s Fantastic Light four year old is a multiple stakes winner and annexed the Grade III European Breeders Riverman stake as a juvenile. He’s been a tad sour lately but a return to top form puts him squarely in the hunt. Not impossible.
Rounding out this very competitive and well balanced field is Pg45’s talented three year old, Day Vision(ire). The roan Daylami(ire) x Blazing Sound (Danzig) homebred won three straight stakes earlier this year and is stakes placed in his last two races. Chance to outrun his 11-1 odds in a big way.
Holy Cow! You can easily make a case for any of the eight starters. Which one will prevail?
