Test Big Mac Passes This Test

Late in his two year old season Test Big Mac used the “special sauce” of a sloppy track to upset a field of allowance foes.  On Saturday, the VegasJef01 trained colt took advantage of another sloppy track and a speed duel in front of him to take Ontario’s Grade III Northern Derby.

The Testa Rossa sired colt earned his third straight triple digit speed figure and won his second Graded race in his last three outings.  In his last race, Test Big Mac had tried the best three year olds in the Grade I Travelers, only to fade to sixth.

In the Northern Derby, Mac sat behind a pair of early speedster, I did My Time and Road to Isengard, and then held off the resurgent Peacenik.  With the win, he moved to a 26th rating among three year old colts.

Peacenik, trained by Oaklawn66, ran his best race in over five months, and moved up one notch to sixth in the ratings.  The millionaire is one to watch.

After his two previous unspectacular route tries, Fappaburst, out of the Sarava02 stable, made a surprising third in a trifecta that paid just shy of $1,500.

The Northern Derby had been billed as a showdown between three Bluegrass colts, Peacenik, San Pelligrino, and Alastor, against the favorite, the filly Glorious Morning.  Test Big Mac spoiled it for them as they finished second, sixth, fourth, and tenth respectively.
