Ladysiera’s REGAL CAT rolls to pricey score

By ITCH

Even Jocko Maloney couldn’t screw up this one.

Ladysiera7 brought her 3yo filly REGAL CAT to West Virginia in week 2986 on the prime for a big race. So strong was her form that she drug the Irish immigrant to the front of the $50,000 World Spin Special going 7 furlongs for 3yo fillies.

As regular Old Waterford railbirds know, there’s nothing Jocko hates more than being on or near the pace, preferring to attempt hopeless late swoops from far back. If ever he rides a frontrunner, he either takes the horse back or stops him in the lane.

Not this time. Regal Cat ($34.10) broke alertly, finding herself in a speed duel with top qualifer NIPPON FLYER. They traded the lead a couple times before Regal Cat proved stronger and took the lead turning for home. Vampire2’s A.P. SUPERWOMAN, reserved early in ninth, came rolling with a serious move in the lane, passing the eventual show filly, PUNCH DRUNK T. It was nip and tuck at the end, but A.P. Superwoman fell just a neck short of getting up and Ladysiera had her stake winner.
