Today we travel to the Saratoga track in New York for the G1 The Thumb Route over a distance of two miles on dirt. Featuring a classy international field of 14 well-bred fillies and mares trained to the minute by some of our best trainers, competing for $750,000 in prize money and trophies. We have perfect conditions for racing and a good crowd is in attendance. Lets have a look at the runners and see if we can find the winner.

This well -bred, Graded placed, Stakes winning 5 year old bay mare by the great Dynaformer has had a couple of runs on this track without winning and has been placed at the 2 mile journey, conditions look ok. 3 runs back she got home ok to finish 6^th in the 14F G1 The Empire State Stayer in New York (America), on dirt, running SP 103. She followed that with a good 3^rd in the 16F G2 The Pittsburgh Stayer in Pennsylvania (America), on dirt, running SP 97. Her final lead up run resulted in a solid 7^th in the 14F G3 The Miss Bourbon Street in Louisiana (America), on dirt, running SP 102. To be ridden by N Gardner to jump from gate 1. Good mare that continues to run on in her races without winning, tough race to win for her but has a chance. ODDS 11/1

This sensationally bred, Stakes winning 4 year old light grey filly by boom sire Tapit has had 1 run on this track without doing much and stepping up in distance and class, a bit of an unknown here. 3 runs back she was impressive winning at Stakes level in the 11F Rack Park Dirt Filly Stayer in Oklahoma (America), on dirt, running a solid SP 108. She followed that with a fair 5^th , again at Stakes level, in the 10.5F Again Of The Dance Dirt Route in Colorado (America), on dirt, running SP 104. Her final lead up run resulted in another impressive win at Stakes level in the 11F Alone That Baby Dirt Mare Stayer in Argentina, on dirt, running a slick SP 110. To be ridden by A Scott to jump from gate 2. Exciting filly racing in great heart but a different ball game today. Has she the class, can she run 2 miles ???? Both questions will be answered today. My No 4 Selection: This beautifully bred G1 winning 5 year old brown mare by champion staying sire Monsun out of the Allowance winning mare Crimson Dawn loves the 2 miles and ran 3^rd in this race last year, finds perfect conditions here. This mare has been racing really well in G1 & G2 company of late shown by her fantastic G1 win 2 runs back in the 16F G1 The Saturday Night in Italy, on dirt, running SP 103. Her final lead up run resulted in a hard fought 2^nd in the 14F G2 The Old Lady in South Korea, on dirt, running SP 108. To be ridden by T Ace from gate 3. Big strong mare with good tactical speed and plenty of stamina, will be right there when the whips are cracking. ODDS 8/1

 

MAGIC OF CECIL (4amigos2) 12 runs, 6 wins $407,140

Another sensationally bred, lightly raced, G2 winning 4 year old bay filly by glamour sire Frankel who is as yet untested on this track but has had 1 go at the 2 miles for an impressive win. Rising again in class but has won her last 5 starts and the distance holds no fears for her. After 2 highly impressive 12F Allowance wins she stepped up to Stakes level and trounced them yet again in winning the 11.5F Car Ginny Dirt Filly Stayer in Canada, on dirt, running SP 101. Her final lead up run resulted in a hard fought win in the 16F G2 The Pittsburgh Stayer in Pennsylvania (America), on dirt, running SP 99. To be ridden by A Rolling to jump from gate 4. Very promising filly in good hands. Continues to rise in class but still improving, if she handles the better class horses here must be in with a show. ODDS 16/1

This well -bred, G2 winning 5 year old bay mare by the great Dynaformer has failed badly on this track twice previously including this race last year. She loves the 2 miles but the 2 costly flops on this track are a grave concern. 3 runs back she demolished the opposition in winning the 16F G2 The Rocky Tops Oaks Virginia (America), on dirt, running SP 102. She followed that with an inglorious 10^th in the 14F G1 The Empire State Stayer in New York (America), on dirt, running SP 95. Her final lead up run resulted in a fair 4^th in the 16F G2 The Pittsburgh Stayer in Pennsylvania (America), on dirt, running SP 96. To be ridden by J Biagi to jump from gate 5. Quality mare that has a big question mark on the track and really isn’t setting the world on fire at the moment, prepared to risk today. ODDS 16/1

My No 5 Selection: This well -bred, Graded placed, Stakes winning 4 year old filly by the highly regarded sire Curlin has had one run on this track for an impressive win but rises in class and goes 2 miles for the 1^st time, questions with conditions here. 3 runs back she dominated the field when winning at Stakes level in the 13F Skinny Cat Dirt Mare Stayer in Kansas (America), on dirt, running SP 102. She followed that with a fast finishing 3^rd, again in Kansas at Stakes level, in the 12F Time Grinding Dirt Mare Stayer, on dirt, running SP 101. Her final lead up run resulted in another hard charging 3^rd at Stakes level in the 14F The Miss Bourbon Street in Louisiana (America), on dirt, running SP 105. To be ridden by big race jockey F Gossett to jump from gate 6. Very smart, lightly raced filly that continues to run on in her races, the 2 miles looks suitable and although stepping up in class looks a real live chance. ODDS 12/1

This sparingly raced, well-bred, Stakes winning 4 year old bay filly by bargain sire Yeats out of the Allowance winning mare Never Roam Alone is as yet untested on this track, this distance and in this class. 3 runs back she was a fair 3^rd at Stakes level in the 10F St Goar Dirt Mare Route in Florida (America), on dirt, running SP 102. She followed that with an authoritative win at Stakes level in the 12F Giselle Dirt Mare Stayer in Oklahoma (America), on dirt, running SP 107. Her final lead up run resulted in another impressive win in the 11F East Till Bold Dirt Stayer in Brazil, on dirt, running SP 107. To be ridden by D Viz from gate 7. Another lovely filly treading in uncharted waters but in good hands, will watch with great interest today. ODDS 10/1

This well performed 7 year old brown mare by well bred bargain sire Frost Giant out of the good producing mare Alydar Shaft is untested on this track but the 2 miles is her go, winning her last 3 starts over the trip. 3 runs back she had no more than an exercise gallop to win a 16F Allowance race in Minnesota (America), on dirt, running SP 87, She followed that with another easy win at Stakes level in the 16F Crafty Art Dirt Challenge in South Korea, on dirt, running SP 96. Her final lead up run produced another solid win at Stakes level in the 16F Seeking Perfection Dirt Mare Stayer in Italy, on dirt, running SP 93. To be ridden by J Caves from gate 8. This wonderful mare has done a superb job for connections but meeting top class opposition this time. Certainly deserves her chance but I think the class might find her out this time. ODDS 18/1

My No 3 Selection: This nicely bred 4 year old light grey G2 winning filly by highly regarded sire Tiznow has raced well at this track without winning but over shorter distances than she prefers, She is as yet untested over the 2 miles but has shown a distinct liking for the long trips, looks suited here. 3 runs back she was highly impressive winning at Stakes level in the 13F Empress Dirt Mare Stayer in Delaware (America), on dirt, running a slick SP 110. She followed that with an equally impressive win in the 11F G2 Disco Inferno Stakes in Sweden, on dirt, running another slick SP 110. Her final lead up run resulted in a dominant win in the 14F G3 The Miss Bourbon Street in Louisiana (America), on dirt, running SP 107. To be ridden by B F Abman from gate 9. Steps up to the 2 miles here but possesses plenty of staying power and is in peek form, must be included . ODDS 5/1

My No 1 Selection: This top class, award winning, 5 year old bay mare by supreme staying sire Monsun is G1 placed on this track but is a G1 winner under these same conditions. She ran in this race last year and although she performed below her best looks better this year. 3 runs back she ran a gallant 2^nd in the 16F G1 The Scottsdale Stayer in Arizona (America), on dirt, running SP 103. She followed that with sensational win in the 14F G1 Breeders’ Bowl Dirt Marathon in California (America), on dirt, running a slick SP 109. Her final lead up run resulted in a hard fought 2^nd in the 14F G1 The Empire Stayer in New York (America), on dirt, running SP 106. Connections rewarded this great mare with a rejuvenating spell back on the farm. To again be ridden by L Radzinski from gate 10. Top class staying mare resuming here today, always in the thick of things and is the one they have to beat, great chance. ODDS 6/1

This beautifully bred G2 winning 4 year old bay filly by top class sire Bernardini is as yet untested on this track and at this distance but is on a roll, winning her last 4 starts. She has won 3 races in Allowance company beating inferior opposition to who she meets here but put the writing on the wall with her final lead up run. She produced a stunning win in the 14F G2 The Old Lady in South Korea, on dirt, running a slick SP 110. To be ridden by A Weldon from gate 11. Rises in class and distance here but was mighty impressive last start, lovely filly on the rise. Must rate a good chance here. ODDS 15/1

This well performed 4 year old bay filly by lightly used bargain sire Elusive City out of the Allowance winning mare Point Remembered is as yet untested on this track but is G1 placed over the 2 miles, conditions suit. 3 runs back she ran 2^nd in a 15F Allowance race in Deauville (France), on good dirt, running SP 95. She followed that with a sterling 2^nd in the 16F G1 The Saturday Night Girl in Italy, on dirt, running SP 101. Her final lead up run resulting in a fading 5^th in the 14F G2 The Old Lady in South Korea, on dirt, running SP 100. To be ridden J Dawg from gate 12. My No 2 Selection: This regally bred, 5 year old bay mare by super star sire Galileo out of the maiden winning mare Time Truth Hearts is a winner on this track but attempting the 2 miles for the 1^st time. This great mare is a 14F G1 winner but must be a risk at the trip, go girl. After racing exclusively on turf she switched to the dirt 2 runs back and met with immediate success winning a `14F Allowance race in New York (America), on dirt, running SP 95. Her final lead up run resulted in a fair 3^rd in the 14F G1 The Empire State Stayer, again in New York, on dirt, running SP 105. To be ridden once again by Z Ayya from gate 13. Top line mare treading new ground, my fingers and toes will be crossed my favorite horse can do it. ODDS 6/1

   

NORTH WEST MISSILE (ibrox) 16 runs, 4 wins $294,150

This nicely bred, Graded placed, Stakes winning 5 year old bay mare by bargain sire Heatseeker is as yet untested on this track but has been placed at the 2 mile journey, conditions look ok but class rise looks challenging. 3 runs back she ran a nice 2^nd in the 16F G2 The Breakdown in Hong Kong, on sloppy dirt, running SP 96. She followed that with a fair 4^th in the 10F G2 The Beat Up Ford in Ireland, on turf, running SP 98. Her final lead up run resulted in a fair 3^rd in the 16F G3 The All Nighter, again in Ireland, on dirt, running SP 98. To be ridden by Y Maguire to jump from gate 14. Good mare but needs to find another gear to trouble these. ODDS 17/1
