Spotlight Race of the Day 3/19 Victoria Allowance
A field of 10 runners will compete in a non-winner of 4 races lifetime allowance race in Victoria, which is the featured Spotlight race. The race is open to both sexes and one filly entered and happens to be the favorite in this 7f dirt race. Only horses age 3 or 4 can compete.
1. Promise Me Henry 73/1-cheap claim at end of February tried the turf a week back against allowance finishing O.K. second in small field. Pops back to dirt and could improve speed numbers but still faces more formidable field with much better speeds.
2. Just A Perfect Day 9/2- hot and cold type of horse. He’ll burn up the track and be competitive one start and be sluggish in the next. Lately it’s been one good run with two not-so-great in between. If trend holds, this will be a not-so-great run.
3. Dokiedone 38/1-won in mid-January when dropped for tag in claimers and was claimed. Ran NW3L in last at mile and failed to deliver results. Looks best suited in claimers at this stage as has history of struggling in allowance class.
4. Cymochles 6/1-consistently running speeds in 90’s since October and has hit board several times. Seems to be finding fields that suit ability and like the front end. Could be the spoiler in this group.
5. British L 7/1-nice win with 98 speed in early February which was enhanced to a 101 speed at month end but finished third and seven back at end of February running over this track. Top three finishes in last five makes this one a factor in the race.
6. Lord Warwick 9/2-in excellent form lately which started with a 2nd at end of December, losing out in photo with 100 speed at 7f. Won early February at 7.5f with 101 speed and gained another victory beginning of March at 7.5f with 99 speed. Late closer will be coming late and slices back to 7f, hoping he’ll have enough room to get to top.
7. One Eyed Doll 7/2-only filly in race and gets the favor of the bettors. Strong win in November with 106 speed at 7.5 against fillies. Last two were with the boys, knocking off 102 speed finishing 4th at 7.5f and in January dropped to 98 running 7f and concluded fifth. Has raced several times with boys but hasn’t beat them.
8. Who’s Afraid 42/1-dropped into high-end claimers in last and picked up victory which was first try on turf. Moves back to grass where top speed of 88 and doesn’t fare well with the competition in this race. Turf win was fine and could be better suited on the grass.
9. William’s Acclaimm 5/1-late runner likes this track and picked up win with 102 speed in November, followed by pair of seconds 103 and 99 speeds. Last race was test on poly and can throw this poor outing away. Race sponsor seems to have made correct call in going back to dirt.
10. Hendrick’s Gimlet 9/2-picked up win in last (100 sp) after a long one year drought of going winless. Scrappy front runner may have trouble holding on to lead but has finished in top three on dirt in 60% of races.
Good runners in this race and I’m going with the value runners. William’s Acclaim comes back to the dirt and could take advantage of the change. Lord Warwick looks underrated based on recent performance and enhances the exacta. British L is showing good form and the price will pump up the trifecta.
