START THE MARES UP In DEAUVILLE!!!
We have arrived in picturesque Deauville for the running of the G1 – The Start Up over a Mile on the firm turf.
There is a full field of 14 mares in the parade ring about to head out on to the track so let’s take a look at the field before the head to the starter.
1. TEOFILO CAT Owner: Epcotlen Jockey: J Stivers 10-6-1-1 18/1
The daughter of Teofilo is in career best form and comes into this race with back to back wins at her last 2 starts. Last time out in the G3-The Statue she settled midfield early before sprinting clear to win by 1 ¼ lengths at the wire. A repeat will see her very competitive here.
2. OHHACHANGEGONCOME Owner: Billzpaid7 Jockey: D Evans 13-7-4-0 10/1
This daughter of Artie Schiller has a great strike rate only missing the placings on her last 2 starts. She is very fast early having led early in all but one of her races. If she can repeat her career high 112Sp in the G2 Trash Can Mile she can factor in the finish here.
3. SEEKING DANZIG Owner: Aredneck Jockey: K Ledwith 15-10-1-1 22/1
A very interesting lead up to this G1 race by running last start in a hot race. Assess chance on the start prior in G2 Blood Bond stakes where she ran a career high 108Sp. Will need to lift another level but is definitely value at such big odds.
4. PARTY HOOK UP Owner: Mtkplaz Jockey: C Williams 18-5-5-2 10/1
This daughter of pulpit has had her last 2 starts in G1 company. I think her best chance is to be ridden just behind the speed and run on. Two starts back in the G1 – Breeders Bowl Game she did just that running home nicely to finish 4th beaten 2 lengths with a 108Sp.
5. SENSENSENSIBILITY Owner: Kobras5 Jockey: R Truitt 20-8-2-4 7/1
This 4yo daughter of Street Sense likes to settle well back in the field before unleashing a brilliant finishing burst. Last time out over 7F in the G2 – The Winter Sprint she settled well back before running on strongly at the end to finish 2 lengths from the winner.
6. BUCKONGEHANON Owner: Glufactory Jockey: J Wilson 13-1-5-3 14/1
In career best form but still needs to lift a level if she is to be winning here. Last time out finished 3rd in the G3-The Statue where she was well beaten by Teofilo Cat. Best chance will be if she can get a good early run in behind and then run on at the stretch.
7. DARK INTERVAL Owner: Plano3 Jockey: J Ledwith 20-10-2-3 5/1
Already a G1 winner of the Breeders Bowl Game winning by a widening 1 ½ lengths with a 110Sp over today’s distance. Last time out she again settled worse then midfield before running on strongly to finish 3rd beat 2 lengths on the wire. A massive chance of winning her 2nd G1 race here.
8. TETE KARLA Owner: Kartago Jockey: H Knott 9-5-2-1 19/1
Her owner Kartago has taken this daughter Teofilo through her grades nicely. She will be out the back early but expect to see her storming down the center of the track late if her record is anything to go past.
9. KAMEHA IX CHEL Owner: Musse2 Jockey: R Whisper 24-9-4-4 11/1
The most experienced lady in today’s field with 24 starts to her name. Needs to lift on her last few runs to feature in the placings here but if she can run up to her run in the G1 – Queen Ascot Stakes where she settle in front before being run down late to finish 3rd with a 108Sp.
10. AN ARTIST’S LIFE Owner: Desimster4 Jockey: S L Ledwith 16-5-2-4 10/1
Comes into this race with back to back stakes wins. Last time out in the G2 – The Winter Forest Desimster4’s daughter of Munnings settled well back and was still al long way off the leaders at the quarter pole but somehow came with an almighty burst to win by ¾ length. If she repeats that she is a massive chance.
11. CLASSICAL SONG Owner: Kevoman5 Jockey: T Small 19-12-2-4 8/1
Well wouldn’t we all like to have one of these in the barn!!! This daughter of Unbridled’s Song is just as effective on the turf as she is on the dirt and that makes her a very valuable broadmare. 4 starts back in the G1 Equinics Gold she stormed home and ran away from her rivals over 7F to win with a 114Sp. If she runs anywhere near that she is in the photo here.
12. TETE FELICIA Owner: Racelord Jockey: A Craig 8-5-1-0 17/1
Another daughter of Teofilo who is stepping up in grade but deserves her shot at G1 level. Considering that she is a front running mare the 8F of today’s race will suit her down to the ground. Assess her chances on her run 2 back in the G3 The Blue Wind settling outside the speed before sprinting clear to win with a 110Sp.
13. BAA BAA BYE BYE Owner:Laz3man Jockey: P Harzheim 19-7-1-4 6/1
A G1 winning daughter of Street Cry who took out the G1 Prix Marcel Boss in October last year. More recently she has been running home strongly at the end of her races without threatening the winner. If she finds her form of a year ago she is a massive chance in this.
14. COSMIC OASIS Owner: Estrapade Jockey: B Wu 14-8-3-1 7/1
A 4yo filly from the great Deep Impact who has an excellent win record. Last start in the G2 The Winter Forest she settled into a nice position early just in behind the leader before coming home well to finish 3rd only beaten 1 length at the wire. A good chance here.
For my money the numbers are 7-1-11.
Good Luck to All Runners and I hope they all come back to the stables healthy!!!
