Spotlight Race of the Day: 7/26 New York Allowance

Non-winners of 4 in their lifetime will compete in an allowance race in New York crossing over the dirt surface.   The mile race is complete with only males and the surface is expected to be fast.

1.  Buddy System   5/2

Three dirt efforts this year have yielded fast speeds over 100, but this one has been off the board in these races.  He’s been in graded and listed competition and takes an ease of class drop back to allowance ranks.   The class drop should be beneficial, but there still are some tough runners in this field.

2.  Cantakerous  20/1

Speed looks to be the issue with this runner as he hasn’t hit the 100 level yet where a little more than half the field has.  Added, he is winless in five tries on the dirt and shifts back to the surface after a short turf stint.  Too  much to overcome in this field.

3.  Goodatdrinkingbeer   7/2

Comes off win at 8.5f event with 103 speed and drawing away from field by two lengths.   Four of Five starts in 2014 have speeds in triple digit range and finishing in top three in those same four races.   Horse should be a factor in this race and will need another perfect trip like last to make it two straight.

4.  Sivo Nqoba   2/1

A lot of life in this runner that has shown career best speeds in 2014.  In four starts, speeds have ranged from 107 to 112.  Finished fifth in last running in listed stakes with a very nice 107 speed.   Backtracks to allowance level where he has been first or second in three races this year.   Owner sponsored this race and it’s up to his horse to cash in now.

5.  Crips Point  9/2

Makes fourth consecutive attempt with NW4L group to get that victory.   Has set pace in the prior three starts only to be caught by field in final stages.   Trims back distance from longer 9f and 11f in last three to mile.  However, it has been just shy of a year since he last made a start so he may need a few runs to get back into form.

6.  The Big Time  18/1

Took six months off between October and April and has been struggling since returning to race circuit.   Two starts with allowance class and he finished double digits back in both with top speed of 81.  One race in claimer on off track was a second and 89 speed.  Likes to be on front but it has been since the end of 2012 since he last won and it looks like the drought will be extended.

7.  Bridal Creek  60/1

Oldest runner in field at age eight has been lightly race with only 17 starts.   Speed numbers over his career are driving the steep odds, however, just returned in July after a long 5+ month break and although he finished 6th going 7f with allowance group, he set career personal speed record of 97.   Could light the board brightly if he can find big improvement off of that!

8.  Leisler   6/1

This one looks like he may have found that he can run fast on the dirt.  In last two starts, he has run his best dirt speeds of 104 and 105  with a win and a third.  Both of those came at sprint distances for this front runner who now is being asked to keep up the effort at a mile.  0 for 3 so far in routes, but that could change.

Tailor made race for Sivo Nqoba who has been having stellar year thus far, gets choice.

Goodatdrinkingbear will have something to say and should get decent trip behind speedsters.

Buddy System drops in class, back to where he can be dangerous.

  • Siyo Nqoba may have had the right conditions for this race but had to fight hard in the stretch to win by a mere quarter length.

Buddy System took advantage of the drop in class and came up short but took second.

Leisler was the fraction cutter and posted each one, except the one that counted most, the last one. Was run down in stretch, took third.
