Speedsters will be the key in the Sydney Mile

A group of fourteen turfers will be entering the gate to dispute the Grade I Sydney Mile, which will be the feature for this Saturday in New South Wales. The distance to be traveled is a mile on the firm turf course and is for three year olds and up colts. Let’s take a look at the starters:

  1. Niner Connection (23-8-2-7) – Consistent four year old who has been extremely reliable lately. He gets a nice five week freshener by his trainer n2racing2. Will be part of one of the early flights, gets a superb post and is one of the top candidates for a win here.
  2. Silver Victory (32-11-4-3) – His last two efforts have been somewhat of a disappointment, but he returns to the turf, in which he has done better lately. If he recovers his form of four races ago, he can score at a nice price.
  3. Beyer Beware (22-7-5-2) – He has scored in two of his last three aces, both of them in graded stakes. He will be coming from way off the pace and if he finds good speed up front, he is a force to be reckoned with here.
  4. Sir Romulus (IRE) (19-4-1-4) – Colt out of Generous who so far has faltered badly when stepping up to graded company. He needs to improve in order to have a chance to win.
  5. A.P. Jack CB (27-8-3-0) – This is a horse clearly on the improvement side. He won his last race, an allowance, posting a very competitive SFs while doing so. Coming off a six week layoff, working great, at 16-1 can light up the tote board.
  6. Alberta Gold (25-8-5-3) – Filly that is taking on the boys. She is a Grade I winner who should be part of the early flight of this event. Bold move by her trainer to pencil her in here, but we can not discard her completely.
  7. Mizzen Dizzie (29-11-4-4) – Speed of the speed in this event. He won the Breeders Bowl Mile in wire to wire fashion and his best races have come with that style of running. If he gets an easy lead, he will not be found until the winner’s circle.
  8. Congo (24-10-3-2) – Arazi colt who has posted some of the best SFs on this event. The problem is that there is plenty of early speed in here, and also he is coming off a lack luster effort. If he can rate himself, he can score, but I will prefer to look elsewhere.
  9. Wonderboy Da Vinci (IRE) (18-7-1-1) – This is a good colt, but so far he has failed miserably when facing graded company. He needs to step up to stand a chance in this race.
  10. Echoes (26-8-1-4) – Since winning the Kingab Mile, he has lost his way to the winners circle. His last race was his first in a six week period, so he may have needed that one. He should be in better form now, but I prefer to watch him first before betting.
  11. Cambados (IRE) (26-8-2-5) – This is another horse that needs to prove he belongs in this group. So far he has bite the dust repeatedly against this company. Will look elsewhere.
  12. Gingobell (30-9-8-2) – Another one of the speedsters in this race. He drew a very bad post, and although he has run well, still has not beaten this quality of horses. Will pass.
  13. Rebellion (25-8-4-2) – Colt that has shown constant improvement over his last starts. He is already a graded winner and his stalking style should serve him well in this group. At 9-1 he offers good value.
  14. Three Man Colt (26-8-3-2) – He won the G3 Royal Calm Stakes, posting a superb SF. The problem is that he has not been able to repeat that effort, and coming off the fourteen hole, he will need great luck to win in here.

The picks: Beyer Beware, Rebellion, Niner Connection.

Good Luck to all!!
