Equinics 2014 Diary – East West Connection (EWC) – The Case of Cabin Fever

The folks at EWC settled in for another cold winter night.  Christmas had just passed by and a New Year begun.  Night time rolled in and another round of snow coated the grounds at residency.

The weather had a terrible and disturbing effect on all the residents.  A fever spread around the territory and no one was spared.  Cabin Fever, as it was labeled, spread quickly and tempers were tense.  Dougiec was restless and decided to seek a remedy for this ailment.  Searching several websites he found what he thought was the cure.  He contacted Irish Luck Farms and they both agreed that the remedy was worth trying.  So they split the list of all the EWC residents and rounded them up.  Outdoors they would head, to get a break from their cabins and hopefully kill  the fever.  They flocked to the center of town where a camp fire was built.  Cuetec stood there, beer in hand, complaining about the endless winter weather.  He stopped talking when a sound of horses was heard from afar.

Heading into the center of town was Denovo, arriving by a sled pulled by some of his race horses.   Avondale asked him why he didn’t walk, like everyone else.  “That’s because I have something special to share with all my EWC buddies.  During the holidays, friends and family loaded me up with the finest of spirits.  What better way to warm up outdoors?”   Cuetec rushed to the sled, filling his arms with the holiday cheer, dropping only one bottle, which was good for him.   Bbudgies and Avondale took it a bit slower and safer by walking over and carrying bottles and Red Solo cups over to the fire.

The cups were filled and a toasts were made.  Morale amongst the EWC members were turning for the better.   Conversation varied amongst many subjects until Roxynken brought up the Equinics.  “Has everyone nominated their horses for the Equinics?”  Some said they did, and some were soon to do it.  “Remember the last one from two years ago?” asked Hoffman.   Several new members inquired as to what happened.  The story was told about how Lordpye ran around excitedly about how he finally had Sex.   Several members recalled the story and laughed.  New members were puzzled until the explanation was supplied.  “Lordpye meant that he finally had S. Ex, the jockey, not sex itself” explained Hoffman, resulting in further laughter.

“Look over there!” shouted Irish Luck Farms, pointing to a bright light that appeared above the mountain.  “Aliens!!!!!” shouted Cuetec, showing he had a bit too much to drink “Run and Hide!!!!”  Tearing off in a frenzy, he slipped on ice, falling face first, into the frosty ground.   No one went to his aid, as everyone stared, trying to figure out what was up in the air.

“Could be the end of the world” said Dougiec.  “No that was supposed to happen at the turn of the century” replied the Computer Expert Denovo.  “The light, I think it’s getting closer!” exclaimed Irish Luck Farms.  “It is! It is!, but it’s moving down the mountain and not flying in the sky.” observed Bbudgies.

Indeed the light was slowly moving down the hill.  Bbudgies pulled out binoculars, which were conveniently nearby.  “I think  it’s a fire that is moving about”.  “Lemme see!” said Avondale, grabbing the binoculars.

Time passed by and the light moved closer.  The glow flickering, confirming it was a fire.  It moved and swayed and made it’s way on a path straight to the center of the EWC Residency.   Holding the torch as high as he could, it was Lordpye!  “I’ve got fire!” he shouted out loud, to a round of applause from the residents of Our Town.   The arrival of the torch was just the thing that was needed.  Cabin fever was finally defeated.
