1,000 BP Challenge update

This week I had two horses running on the track, with hopes to add to my 40 BP bankroll.   Hold The Lead, a horse I acquired for one-buck in the auctions ran in West Virginia.  I pointed her to the turf after a terrible career debut on the dirt.   She was 6-1, the fourth choice in the 8-horse field, giving me hopes of getting something with a top-five finish.   She finished dead last a good 18 lengths back.   Good thing it was only 7.5 furlongs otherwise she’d still be running if it was a longer distance.  For a buck it was worth to see if the grass would work.  Back into the auction she went and I got my buck back.  So I broke even on the deal. Well, I did have boarding fees, so I suppose I actually loss some.

Foxzzene is another one obtained from the auction and is also another one I flipped surfaces on.  She was pushed over to the dirt after four  uninspiring grass efforts.  I also dipped her to $15k claimers, the lowest of her short career.  Neither the class drop or the change to dirt worked.    In the full 14-horse field  going a short 4.5f, she ran dead last early on and picked up a few spots finishing 11th, but not gaining ground on the winner.  She’s a slow starter so I’ll be thinking of having the jockey push her more in the earlier stages and may try a mile in distance.  Definitely going back to grass next start.

STABLE CHANGE

With Hold the Lead leaving the stable through the auctions, which frees up a spot on the roster.   I’ve got three others sitting in the barn and I’ve opted to bring High Candy out and he is now training to race in a few weeks.  He hasn’t raced since the spring of 2011 and I’ve got hopes that time away will be very generous to his return.

OTHER

I made one claim attempt this week on THAT’S NO DOUBT, a decent turf runner dropped in for a cheap tag of $2,000.  Horse won in the race which was good for the runner.  Not good was that I didn’t win the horse.

Total BP’s are holding at 40.
