Jainto Vasquez Grade I
Well here I am back in ITALY for the 2006 EQUINOCS hopefully I can stay out of trouble this time and hopefully the girl on the Lambo won’t be around and I will have to lay off the vino just a little. Not a pleasant sight on arriving to see the rain coming down but at least without the Olympics I should be able to get a cab and a decent hotel. Last time here I had to bunk down at the bloody stables.
I also have a colt entered here this year and how he will go in the wet is anybodies guess but Mrlucky and the others from the OHIO residency are looking after him but I hope to catch up with them later and add my two cents in, even considering the fact that they have threatened to tar and feather me if I so much as try and offer my advice.
The Jacinto Vasques Grade I for fillies and mares is my assignment and we have a field of 19 out to strut their stuff. One wonders here also how the track conditions will affect the outcome and it may well be the day of the boilover and wins for the minnow residencies.
As we have come to expect their entry Light Spectrum(GB) trained by blaster2 comes into this with form on the board, the winner of 13 from 28 this (Diesis x Habitat) mare is ranked 50 in her clas and is coming off an impressive last start win over 9 furlongs. She also is the winner of 7 of her last 8, the only thing against her is she is coming back to the mile though with her style this shouldn’t cause any concerns. She ha had one start on a wet track for a place so it shouldn’t worry her too much.
This seven year old mare Forty In Ok by (Sadler’s Wells x Forty Niner) may be past her best though she was the winner of two allowances prior to her latest start and is the winner of 14 M/C/O/S. Has had 3 runs in the wet for one show and as her last 8 runs have been at allowance level may struggle here though her shrewd trainer tejanoroy claims he is confident she will run a good race.
EAAA Racing
Though it has been six starts since this (High Yield x Sadler’s Wells) Stroppy mare trained by ponybaby has won of late she has been very consistent in her last three runs at Stake level. She also has a win and a show from four starts on the wet surface so this could just be the chance she requires to show her wares and figure in an upset.
The CR Racers
This very lightly raced four year old mare Tommy (Danzig x NijinskyII) has had only had seven starts but trainer artisway has saddled her up for six wins with her last being a win in a Stakes over 9 in great style. The sky is the limit for this mare and is also one from one in the wet so the only thing going against her is the rise in class. But winning form is good form and it wouldn’t surprise to see her take the leap in class and be right in the finish here.
Down Under Racing
Pandrews is the trainer og Firm King(IRE)(Desert King x Affirmed) a 5 year old mare wth a record of 7 from 14. A winner of a Grde 3 seven runs back since than has also won a Stakes with very good time. Her past two runs have been down on form she will be better suited by the mile. She has yet to run in the wet so that couls also be a concern. She will need to be at her very best here.
I hope the trainer staceylg can keep johnno away from classy mare Glad Girls (Forty Niner x A.P . Indy) as we all know he is a jonah. This talented mare has 12 from 31 and her present form is imposing with four from her past eight including 2 Stake wins followed by a fourth in a Stakes at latest start. One concern is that she has tried the wet 3 times and had 2 shows and is also stepping up in class. Provided she can turn in a run like she did three starts back she can make her presence felt.
They appear to have the mare to beat here, Mambo Birdie(Kingmambo x Storm Bird ) and trained by knowlton is the winner of her past 4 starts with her latest win being a GradeI over this distance and she has also won on the sloppy surface so she has the God’s in her corner. This mare is all class and only has to perform to her ability and she should get
NorthWest Racing Circuit
Trainer oberon has the mare Sly Go Lightly( IRE) (
Hollandia3 trains this five year old mare Zook Spur(Cozzene x Dynaformer) and for a 5 year old is lightly raced having only 13 starts for an impressive 7 wins. A winner of 4 of her last 8 starts and her only poor performance amongst them was a third in a Grde3 . The class may tell here and she also is having her first outing on a wet track so will have to be taken on trust.
The
Iant4 is the trainer of the 6/1 favourite Back In Your Arms (Kingmambo x NijinskyII) 5 year old mare who is 11 from 24 and is ranked 14 in the division. The winner of four in a row including 2 Stakes a GrdeI and a Grde2 before dropping off a bit in her past two runs. She has never run on an off track and even though her connections claim she has trained the house down and is back to her imperial best I believe she is beatable here though I am a legend at being wrong.
GR Simsters
Compensation(Seeking The Gold x Northern Dancer) is a talented four year old mare trained by that doyen of horsemanship lenny12 and is 7 from 18. Very hard to figure this mare out she disappointed at her last two runs at Graded level but two runs back had a good win in a Stakes race. In her favour is that she is 1 from 1 on the sloppy going so that may could make all the difference and you would be a mug to write off her chances.
NEXIS
This 5 year old mare Laguardia (Sadler’s Wells x Machiavellian) trained by usoz has faltered at her last two runs after putting in a good performance to claim seconded in a Grde3 over the mile. She also has had 3 runs in the slop with two shows to her credit. This could be a little tough for her but she will be in the front or close to it for part of the journey.
Epsom Downs Residency
Irish Bonus (Meritocrat x Twig Moss) is a six year old mare trained by togasarasa with a fourth to her name at her last start over 10 in an Allowance, prior to that she won two claimers. This is a gigantic step for her and plus the fact she has failed in two runs in the wet it is very hard to see her upsetting some of this lot.
Trained by chibound this seven year old mare Northern Wildcat(Forest Wildcat) has four wins at Allowance level and a seconded in a Stakes in her last 8 runs so she has some form on the board even though the class here is much tougher than she has been used to of late. She has a place from 2 starts in the wet so is not a complete duffer in these conditions, but this is going to be difficult for her.
GSR
Mikeg is the trainer of this in form 5 year old mare Shrewd Vixen(Johannesburg x Ela-Mana- Mou) who has won her last two the latest being a great win in a Stakes over 8.5. She has really only put one poor performance in over her last 8 runs and even though she is jumping up in class and is 2 shows from 3 in the wet will be on the pace for a good part of this race.
Alpine Turf Club
Tiger Stripes(Candy Stripes xMiswaki) is a 6 year old mare trained by the aggressive airtiger and who has 1 win and 1 place in the wet from 3 starts has been mixing her form of late but we know that at her best she could handle the coditions and the rise in class she will meet here. She seems to put one good one in than a so so and if that is the case she is due for a good one.
Naracing2 trains this 4 year old filly Star West(Rahy x A.P.Indy) who is 3 from 22. The winner in the wet this classy filly has been in very consistent form and a fith is the worst she has run in her last 8 starts. She has a second over a mile in a Grde2 and a third over a mile at Grde3. A very talented filly who is way over due for a big win and is capable of upsetting a few of this lot.
Viking Racing
Sabbath trains this lightly raced 4 year old Tete Montsegur(IRE) (Montjeu xHalo) and is 5 from 13. Her last 8 races have been in top companyand has a second in a Grde3 to her credit. She has been given a let up since getting a seconded in an Allowance and hopefully she has returned in top form as she will need to be at her best to trouble a couple of these. She has a show to her credit from one start in the wet.
