Future Star is going Berzerk

Berzerk Gold ran well last outing in the Be Forewarned Stakes and we all should have taken heed. She certainly proved that she is on the right track in 2006 in the SHIRLEY SMITH stakes for 4 year old and up Fillies and Mares. This 7 furlong Stakes race on the dirt for a purse of $150,000 was a fiesta under the Mexican sun and especially for trainer Futurestar who looks like he has a “Future Star” in his stable.

As mentioned, Berzerk Gold threw a 105 SPF in her previous race and came right back with an even better 106 this race to capture the 1st Place Trophy. The Seeking The Gold filly has now run triple digits in four of her past five races and seems to be settling in for her four year old campaign. She moved her earnings up over the $800,000 mark as well and looks to be heading toward that $1 Million mark.

Nun Colder looked to be the story of this race as the long shot flew out of the gate and built a nice lead over the eventual winner. She seemed ready to hang on to the lead as well but finally relinquished it at the top of the stretch. That was the point that Berzerk Gold took over as the crowd envisioned a race between her and the rocket behind her, Flying Phoenix. Phoenix looked good but didn’t have enough to catch the winner who won by more than a length. Nun Colder held on for third and looks to be a filly to be reckoned with down the road.

Jockey Olson guided Berzerk Gold to and almost perfect trip and Futurestar had better look to him again soon to sit in the stirrups upon his filly as they seem a wonderful match. The future looks bright, both for this filly and the Futurestar stable as well.
