Barb’s Double Allie lived up to his odds, besting a short field by two and a half lengths to capture this week’s Can Rizzo(GB) Memorial. He posted an 85.6 speed on the off track, owning the second half to bring home the prize. This is his first stakes victory, and his fourth win in his last five starts. It raises him to number 76 in the three year old turf classic division and pushes his career earnings mark to $90253 in nine career starts. He paid 3.90 to win, and capped an 11.80 exacta.

Kirby Country jumped out to the early lead in this one, pressed hard by Barb’s Double Allie. It was a rather unexpected turn of events, and he usually prefers to be a bit farther off the starting pace. He managed to open up three quarters of a length by the half, but that was the best he was to see. Barb’s Double Allie turned up the heat just past the halfway marker, and when they hit the stretch, he simply ran away from the rest of the field, cruising to an easy win. Kirby Country held on tight, keeping the race as close as it was, but came in two and a half lengths out at the wire for second. Aygues Tortes was driving down the rail in the stretch, show good stamina to hang on for third, three and a quarter off the winner as they crossed the finish.
