Donner Victorious in G2 Disco Inferno

For most of Saturday’s G2 Disco Inferno Stakes, it looked like Daylight Dreamer(Ire) would run away with the race. The chestnut daughter of Giant’s Causeway(Ire) leapt out to a convincing lead, putting as many as 4-1/2 lengths between herself and her nearest challenger, Donner. It wasn’t enough space to fend off the youthful Donner, though, who came through in a big way in the stretch, posting a 107 speed figure and cruising to a 1-1/2 length victory. The veteran campaigner Violent Storm came flying from more than a dozen lengths back to capture the second place prize. Former claimer Barb’s Petit Marron took fourth place, with Chopping Hill hanging on to capture the fifth place cheque.

The victory solidified Donner’s standing as one of the top distance females, increasing her ranking to #3. She has nearly $1.5 million in earnings. Violent Storm, fresh off her third place finish on DelPenn Champions Day, moved one place closer to that elusive graded victory, and proved once again that she is a force to be reckoned with when she steps foot on Sweden’s track. She just broke into the top 25 with her excellent finish. Daylight Dreamer(Ire) is just a few spots ahead of her at #21 in the long dirt division.
