Smackdown race for two year old colts on turf
A field of fourteen top quality colts do battle in the SMACKDOWN Stakes over the seven furlongs on firm turf this Saturday. This should be one hell of a race with all the runners capable of winning this quality race.
From pp1 is the (Shahrastani x gone west)colt Lake Raider from the raider99 stable with odds of 11/1. This colt is two from four but is improving all the time, and with a good third in a Stakes at his last run. He appears to be an on pacer and the only doubt will be whether he can hold out some of the closers at the end of the seven.
Out of pp2 is the ( Beat Hollow x Lear Fan) colt Drop The Bomb(GB) from the mikehusker stable with the tote showing 9/1. Two from three for this promising colt, who ran home well to win an Allowance over the mile at his last outing and even though dropping back to 7 and rising in class should prove very hard to beat.
From pp3 we have given2’s well bred colt Michelangelo(IRE) by (Galileo x Peintre Celebre ) and is showing 12/1 on the board. Unbeaten with two from two he showed tremendous improvement at his seconded effort, and though he is stepping up in class and some of the others have posted better times , he should be running on at the business end of this one.
Jumping from pp4 is the regally bred Spare T(IRE) (Theatrical x Danehill) colt out of the super28 stable with odds of 6/1 making him favourite for this. He has only had the one start resulting in a good win in good time. He appears to like to be on the pace and looks to be a very promising colt who will take a power of beating in this.
From pp5 we have the ( Rainbow Quest x Seattle Slew )colt Quest For Phyl from the pizzaman stable and is at 21/1. Only one from four at this stage of his career and surprisingly for a Rainbow Quest has been on the pace. This bloke should appreciate the extra distance and is a colt who should only get better as the distances increase.
Out of pp6 is the (Distorted Humour x storm Cat ) colt Inept Instructions from the nacalbred stable and is at 8/1. Two from four so far for this colt, but since being switched to the grass his performances have rocketed. Just beaten in a Grde3 at his last run, but was coming home at a great rate of knots ,and he will appreciate the distance,and he should be charging home like a wounded lion. Watch for this bloke later down the track, he could be a star.
From pp7 is the (Montjeu x fappiano ) colt Zero Defect(ire) from the stable of super6 and is at 12/1. He has one from three but has continued to improve and should keep doing that in this, he is another closer who will appreciate the distance and should be full of running over the closing stages.
Out of pp8 is Twilight”s Call (Peintre Celebre xRainbow Quest) from the stable of mav1761and is showing odds of 11/1. A likely looking colt who has one from one and did everything right in that run. Another who looks to like the pace and though coming up in class appears to have a ton of promise and is capable of giving this a shake.
Out of pp9 is the Skills In Magic (Denon xSadler’s Wells ) colt trained by peep9 and is at 9/1.There is a lot to like about this bloke and was only beaten at Grade3 level at his last run. This colt has an enormous finish and one feels the further the race the better this colt will like it , you can expect him to come roaring home with a wet sail and if the leaders falter this colt will pounce like a hyena on a lions breakfast.
From10 is the secnded colt from the stable of nocalbred In Spite Of You (Speightstown x Deputy Minister ) and is at 9/1. Some of us a very lucky to get one fair two year old but nocalbred ends up with two very good ones. Two from four for this colt but boy was he super impressive in winning a Stakes at his last start. Sure it was over 5.5 and he is going up to seven here but he should handle that on his ear , a very impressive colt who will be right in this and will give the late chargers something to catch.
From pp11 is the Celtic Storm (IRE) (Refuse To Bend x Storm Cat ) colt from the super1 stable and is at 9/1. Two very good wins was followed by not so good run in a GR3 race but I believe you can forget that run, he will be more competitive in this group, and provided he can get to sit on the pace will be a chance in this.
Out of pp12 is the Your Honor Raider (Alnaab x Danehill ) colt from the stable of randyraide and is at 11/1.Three from four for this promising colt with a last start Stakes win to his credit. The time may have been down but he won in a canter and can certainly improve on that and will be in the forefront of the charge down the stretch.
From pp13 is the Hopeless Hope (Elusive Quality x Forestry) colt from the stable of bodgit and is at 10/1.A winner of two from four including a good Stakes win prior to finding a Gr3 a bit tough at his most recent effort, but the distance of 5.5 wouldn’t have helped either. This colt can and will do better than that and this race should suit , another who will be right on the pace, and will be no surprise if he triumphs in this.
Coming out of pp14 is the Fyre Dragon(IRE) (Galileo x Caerleon) colt from tesio’s stable and is showing 11/1. Winner of his last start giving him one from two, he led all the way to get the victory. Another colt who with his breeding you would expect to stay all day and should be a force in the longer events. Up in class but has class and could skip away with this if the other jocks take their eyes off him.
There you have but it is too hard for me to pick, it will probably boil down to the best jockey on the day anyway good luck to all.
