Six to Meet the Challenge

Stakes
Seven and half furlongs
Fast Dirt             $50,000
Fillies and Mares, 3 years old

Six fillies will be aiming of starting their three years olds campaign with an impressive showing in this event.  The distance will serve as a test for the competitors, with those achieving a passing score, moving on to longer and potentially more acclaimed events.  Unfortunately, others will find test more difficult and shorter runs will be on their future agenda.

PP1

Unbridled Dixie

Jockey-C Gentry

Odds-9/2

Dixieland Band x Unbridled

After tiring slightly in the stretch at a mile, this distance may be a better choice for this frontrunner.  Winner of one of five starts, she will be stepping up to stakes competition for the first time.

PP2

Pedro;s Town(IRE)

Owner-gavineades

Jockey-S Rodenhauser

Odds-7/1

Scenic(IRE) x Rahy

Two races ago, ran (and claimed) in a 15000 claiming event.  She responded for her new owner with an impressive run (2nd place, 82 sp) in new silks.  Steps up to tougher competition, but has a better shot than her odds indicate.

PP3

Pulpits Tolono

Owner-marilyn847

Jockey-K Turk

Odds-5/2

Pulpit x Forty Niner

She comes in off of two nice trips.  Finished third (1 ¼ lengths back) in the Alypain Brain Stakes, her last time out.   She will be stretching the distance out in this event, but has been strong at six furlongs, so this distance may not be a factor.

PP4

Silver Star G

Ownerpgpg

Jockey-K Turk

Odds-5/2

Silver Deputy

She looked good at seven furlongs, so this distance should not play a part in her performance.  She has been lightly races (4 starts), but always in contention.  Until her last outing, her running tendency had been broke slowly and rally in the last quarter.  Her allowance win in her last race showed some ability to pressure the lead and hang tough in the stretch.

PP5

Wondergirl Erin

Owner-zeco5

Jockey-L Kester

Odds-2/1

Sakhee x Kingmambo

After several close finishes, she finally broke her maiden the last time out.  Even with only one win, this filly is a tough runner in the stretch and should be in contention the last few strides in this event.  I would not be surprised if she does not hook up with Silver Star G at the top of the stretch and battle it out to the wire.

PP6

V’s Best Bet

Owner-fusion

Jockey-F Duffy

Odds-7/1

Bestyoucanbe x Geri

Stakes winner in her last trip, but still comes in sharing the longshot role.  Her winning trip was at five and one-half furlongs, so the question looms on if she can carry it another quarter.  Having a talented jockey aboard will aid her chances.  The pace of this event may be strong enough to enable a stretch runner like her to seize the opportunity.

Summary:  The event looks wide open with even the two seven-to one runners having legitimate chances.  Wondergirl Erin and Silver Start G may have earned the favorite roles in the morning line, but others like Pulpits Tolono should be considered.
