1. Digital Overture – Based on the game dam ‘Stealth Overture’, this colt has a similar name. In career best form, the colt that I like to call ‘Digi-O’ has passed the post first in 7 of its 13 outings. If conditions suit, Digi-O could finish right up the top or even down the bottom or maybe even somewhere in the middle.
2. Secretariat’s War – This 4 year old colt looks to be lacking what I call ‘balls’. He has come to mix it with the best but poor recent form could see him struggle to finish top 3. At 9/1, I think the bookies will be laughing.
3. Classicus – The owner clmstable has been very tricky here by forming the name ‘Classicus’ out of its sire ‘Sky Classic’ and damsire ‘Pentelicus’, get it? Classi-cus.
4. Cocktails – At 8/1 we could see the next winner of the Movieland Handicap. Cocktails is one of my favourites and has shown consistent form both as an experienced 5 year old horse and as a movie starring Tom Cruise. Carryall would have to be happy with the 9 career wins for this horse and if not then may be taking little Cocktails for granted.
5. Scarce Gold – Ignore his flop 2 starts ago because this 4 year old boom colt looks extremely dangerous. Scarce Gold has shown he has the staying potential when holding off a strong field in his last outing. Gold may not be so scarce in California this week for unsunghero.
6. Crimsonite – This colt is light grey and that should be enough to get him a top 3 position.
7. Smart Canadian – When I first saw the odds of 84/1, I laughed. It was only until I saw the horses recent record that I stopped laughing and thought that maybe the owner had a disability. The name ‘Smart Canadian’ doesn’t even agree with itself, just as I don’t agree with filling class races with 2nd rate horses. Good luck anyway chasitey72, I’m sure you’re a nice person.
8. Well Meant – Although this boom 3 yr old colt has slightly lower speeds than the favourites, he has shown a lot of heart with a couple of recent wins. If I was called “Well Meant” then I would be absolutely furious with my parents but that has little relevance to the race.
9. Offstage(GB) – Just coz they won the Ashes, it is unlucky that the Pommy will get up here. A non-winner from his last 4 starts suggests that he could struggle against an in-form field. 11/1 may be a little generous but clmstable has his second horse in this race still running over 100.
10. Khee’s Heir – This colt has had an up-and-down year this year, and looks to be slightly out of the class of this race. 2 Thumbs up to peeps1 for giving it every chance at graded stakes success but a thumbs down if he thinks it stands a chance.
11. In the evening – This colt will start favourite at 9/2 and steps down a couple of levels in class. Running a top horse back-to-back is something I’d do if I was wanting to injure one of my claimers but duke is taking the chance here. I’m glad there’s only 3 horses left.
12. CJ Unbridled – cjwalker has arrogantly named the colt after himself. This chestnut colt ironically has a chest and nuts and will unlikely add to his 2 career wins. Still I believe in giving a horse a chance at the top, and I also like the fact that “walker” is in the owners name because it is like Walker Texas Ranger and if Chuck Norris could provide a cameo in this race then it would definitely add a bit of excitement.
13. Stolen(IRE) – After a 2 month lay off, this is my pick of the race. A colt by Montjeu, Stolen is looking to give the irish something other than a gay accent. Ignore his last off track run, Stolen will improve on his best s.p of 105.
14. Magpie in the Sand – Although at 7/1, poor recent form will see this Magpie struggling to come to grips with the requirements of being graded stakes horse. Just outside a top 3 finish is most likely for owner gcphantom3.
