THE BLUEGRASS SPRINT
THE BLUEGRASS SPRINT G2
Purse 250,000 7f
4 and up dirt sprint
This race is filled with a mixed group some may call on the lighter side but any horse that can bring home a big piece of
a 250,000 prize in Kentucky would always hold a special place in my heart. I like to see what some would call less talent-
ed horses stepping up to try against tougher company because you just never know, thats what makes horse racing so
special and theres nothing like it when they thunder down the stretch, every muscle straining to win. Wow! So heres our
full field of 14 entries….
1 GOLDEN DOOR- this horse hasnt shown alot since his 4yr old debut, but won three back to back Stakes races during his 3yr old campaign.
Trainer/super 1 will need this horse to fire up like he did then, his last best race being a third place finish in the 6.5 Year Of The Sal Dirt
Sprint Stakes in which he rolled off a 111 speed rating. This Malibu Moon sired horse will go off at 18 to 1, I think thats a fair handicap of
his chances on Saturday. He’s most likely to close here and the 7f gives him room for a try.
2 HAACKS’S GLADIATOR-this horse is coming in with great form, with three back to back wins, the last being the 7.5 Marc Till Que Dirt Dash
Stakes with a closing win taking down a Grade 2 winner with gusto. His ITM percent is a rocking 71 and trainer/haack should be glued to
this race as soon as the gates open..I know I would. Odds are 10 to 1 bring your wallet or purse and bet on this one.
3 SUMMER CAUSEWAY- heres another deep closer that is in fine form as well, with a win in a G3 and a April run in the G2 Billy And Jimmy Stake
with a respectable 2nd place finish, and both races resulted in 113 and 114 speed rates. Trainer/reman12000 ‘s horse is also the highest money
earner of the field and this Summer Bird sired horse also has a 72% ITM figure. The odds of 7 to 1 make him a co-favorite here and I feel he’s
worth every bit of the price you get here. This team might be polishing a winners trophy on Saturday.
4 DEVIL’S CHARM-this chesnut colt has been building a resume since his late 3yr old campaign with increasing speeds and strong finishes that
I feel warrant him a well-earned trip here for his first Graded appearance. His challenge here will be the 7f distance but as this Elusive Quality
sired colt also prefers to close the extra distance shouldnt be a problem. Trainer/natchilus1 could be working magic with this one, and out of
the mare Devil In Mrs Jones (whose name I love) he could be peaking right on time, odds are 12 to 1 race day.
5 STORM OF QUEENS-this horse will have a definite challenge in front of him on Saturday, his last performances have been lackluster at best IMO.
Every horse in this race has a chance but trainer/gatetowire is gonna need this Stormy Atlantic colt to show some his earlier 3yr old polish to get
the job done. Odds here are 10 to 1 afterall this is a Stakes winner with talent and hes coming in fresh, a plus in my book.
6 ICEBRIGADE-this horse hasnt raced since early Febuary of this year but won two G3’s at 3 the last being the 7f Select Bud with a hot speed of 113
rating nicely thru out and bringing it home in the stretch drive for trainer/seedly. This Roses In May sired colt is hoping to bring a big effort and
claim some prize money, not out of the question but again everything will need to go right for him, odds are 13 to 1/
7 SCARLET FLIGHT-trainer/seedly has a second entry here with another Roses In May sired colt who tried longer distances without much success
but may well like the turnback to a 7f start. Odds are 22 to 1, and this horse earns that having gone without a win since his early 3yr old campaign.
I dont see much of a shot here for this colt but horse racing can result in shocking unseen performances from longshots everyday.
8 ELITE EVAN-this colt had an allowance win in early Febuary but his one G3 start in the Billy And Jimmy saw him run out front eagerly only to fade
at the finish and place 7th there. This horse is capable of a win here and has shown the talent and speed in prior starts as proof, and has earned
a try in this race. Trainer/fleetwood will most likely send his colt out to the front early, the question is can he finish just as strong on Saturday.
His odds are 9 to 1 and this Pulpit sired colt should be a pace setter.
9 FOOLISH MIRACLES-trainer/smdf’s horse has popped off an early G3 win in the 6f Wicker Sofa Stakes but had two poor performances since that
race in January. His stalking style could set him up nicely if he can fend off the late closers this race seems to be full of. I look for this horse to be
close to the pace and stay in striking range, odds are 9 to 1 and as this races second highest money earner you cant overlook him her
10 WESTERN OASIS- this Oasis Dream sired colt started off his 4yr old season with a Stakes and G2 win then never fired in his last start a G1 in which
he just never seemed to find his best effort. Trainer/balata’s colt has been improving, and throw out that last race and this colt is entirely capable
of taking home the prize, if he shoots out of the gate and goes to the front early he could get away from the rest.
11 DISTORTED ASSASSIN-well I really like this colts chances here, hes run longer races and won and I just have a feeling hes ready to roll at this dis-
tance. He ran a strong race in the 7.5 Ongoing Tune Dirt Sprint with a 115 in pretty good company last October and although that was awhile back
trainer/battlers must see what I see in placing him here. A Distorted Humor colt, odds will be 9 to 1.
12 SEEING MEANS MORE-this horse is dangerous in this race, hes doing nothing wrong and has won his last three starts, an allowance a Stakes and a
G2 in that order. He closes like a thunderbolt that no one saw coming, except trainer/adrian of course, out of the interesting sire Dance In The Dark
standing in Japan he means business on Saturday. I hope firecrews on are hand in case this one leaves the track smoking, with an 82% ITM he cant
be overlooked on your ticket, odds 7 to 1 making him the other co-favorite.
13 WALL OF RELIEF-this horse is running with some consistant speeds of late and although they might not have resulted in wins hes never far off the
mark and should be a serious contender. Trainer/lender probably doesnt mind the outside post as his horse settles well and changes tactics to
suit the pace, and with two Stakes apperances finishing second and first respectively there, he capped of his 4yr old season with a ITM finish in
G2 Billy And Jimmy taking home third. He’ll go off at 9 to 1 in his second US start and it could be high times in KY for this team.
14 METALLIC MONK- this Hussonet colt has run shorter sprints in his past but has proven the distance can handled and maturing another year may
be the extra punch this colt needs to win. Dont get me wrong his closing style may suit here perfectly and trainer/planoaxius has brought him in
ready but to bringing home a win in this race will test his colts stamina and the outside post could be a problem. Odds are 8 to 1.
This race is most likely going to be won by a closer in my opinion as the pace here could burn out to set up perfectly for that
result. Then again if they let a slow pace prevail early, and the speed horses can stay clear of traffic it could also be advantage
for slip away on the turn and sizzle the stretch. I dont usually give out my picks but I will go ahead and bite the bullet with a
shot at handicapping here.
My picks are….2, 12, 10 and superfecta bet 11. Good luck trainers..may the best horse in May win!!
