Spotlight Turns Into Tip Sheet

For the first time ever, the Spotlight feature will take the form of a Tip Sheet.  I’ve considered doing this for a long time and anyone who has read ”From The Horses Mouth” already knows the format.  Checkers has done a wonderful job with the weekly coverage of the New York track and I enjoy reading the article, rather, tip sheet, each week.  Also, the recap of the races are an excellent touch!   I’m not trying to copy his format, although I can’t say there won’t be any similarities.  I think most tip sheets have a lot of things in common.  So here we go.

Before going to the tipsheet, a recap of last weeks Spotlight race is in order:

Last week’s Spotlight feature drew focus on a $2,500 claiming race for older fillies and mare in Pennsylvania.    The race attracted many trainers and three horses were claimed and switched barns after the race.  Moving to new homes were Blues Idol, Offtherocker and PJ Royal Gamble.

But not changing barns was the winner of the race, Southern Pine.  This mare returned with only 2 weeks rest and wired the field with a career equaling best speed of 86.  I pretty much passed up on this horse due to the short rest, but expected an improvement in speed.   Those who went with Southern Pine picked up $12.00 on a two-dollar wager.

Offtherocker was my second choice and finished in second, making up a lot of ground in the final quarter mile, but not enough to catch the winner.  The exacta was a decent $38.40.

Completing the triple, which paid $166.90 was Paulse.  Paulse lost out in a photo for second, but improved off of last two outings with drop in class.

My top pick Zensational Miss showed she doesn’t care for the dirt and was disappointing with big drop from allowance level.  Third choice PJ Royal Gamble ran flat, finishing fourth, was claimed, and retired for breeding purposes.  Such is th  e live of a sim-thouroughbred.
