He's A Charmer Stakes
Grade III / Group 3*CPU - Purse : $150,000
Restricted to 3 Year Olds and Older
9 Furlongs | ~1800 Meters | One Mile and and One Eighth Firm Turf
This week I am heading down to Florida where it is nice and sunny this Thanksgiving Day weekend for the running of the G3, He’s A Charmer Stakes. A field of twelve 3 year olds and up fillies will be running a distance of 9 furlongs across a Firm Turf track trying to find the wire first and collect on that $150,000 purse. This is a very well decorated field of horses in this race and at first glance all look well matched and in a competitive spirit. The track looks nice for this race and there has been much chatter around the stables as they make last minute preparations. The odds makers have posted their morning line and the post positions have been drawn. So let’s take a closer look at this field of twelve as they prepare for Saturdays running of the G3, He’s A Charmer Stakes.
Post Position: 1
Horse/Odds: Sea The Dubs 9/1
Sire: Sea The Moon
Jockey: L Herren
This 4 year old filly who is a Listed Stakes winner when she found the wire first in the Queen Of Greens Stakes on 09/08/2019. She went wire to wire in that 8.5 furlong outing and got up for a 3 ½ length win. She came back on 10/20/2019 here in Florida for a 9 furlong run in a $67,500 Allowance of which she repeated another wire to wire win as she pulled away for a 2 ½ length win with jockey, L Herren up top who is a jockey from here in Florida. He gets the call to repeat up top for this race as the pair attempts to repeat their success of their last outing together. They will head out to the track on Saturday representing the Empire State Racing residency.
Post Position: 2
Horse/Odds: The Passageway 7/1
Sire: London Bridge
Jockey: V Gardner
This G3 winning 4 year old Bay filly earned that badge back in February of this year in Ohio when she rallied for the win in the G3, Good Vista Handicap. Since that time she has not found the boards again as she continues to run at the Graded level. Her last outing came on 10/10/2019 in Japan at a distance of 9 furlongs in the G3, The Foolish Symbol Stakes. She was closing but just missed the boards that day showing up 4th at the wire and 4 ½ lengths back. She will get the services of jockey, V Gardner for this race who is a local favorite jockey here in Florida. He will need to find a clear path for this filly when she makes her move to close after the third call. They will head to the turf representing the Midas residency for this outing.
Post Position: 3
Horse/Odds: Not Very Often 20/1
Sire: Scratch Bred: FRANKEL (GB) x KRIS S. x CAERLEON
Jockey: M Samaan-Molinero
All the lights have been bright in the winner’s circle for this 3 year old Bay filly and she goes out on Saturday to attempt to keep her Hot Streak intact. However she gets little respect from the odds makers in their morning line as they make her one of the longest choices in the field. She is a Listed Stakes winner which came on 09/15/2019 in the Cecil Roo Stakes in Pennsylvania where she went gate to wire against other 3 year old fillies. Her last outing came on 10/20/2019 going 9.5 furlongs in a $43,800 NW4L Allowance when she stepped up to face some older horses. She was successful in that run and got up for the win by 4 ½ lengths. Her owner places the call to acquire the services of jockey, M Samaan-Molinero from out of Illinois to take to the irons with his filly as a first time jockey for this horse and is a jockey that may not be as seasoned as some of the other jockeys riding in this race. They will be representing the Empire State Racing residency come post time.
Post Position: 4
Horse/Odds: Deep Dynadream 21/1
Sire: Oasis Dream
Jockey: S S Ledwith
This G3 badge earning Bay filly found a win and earned that badge when she ran 9 furlongs back in May of this year in The Wynn Point Stakes in New York in a wire to wire run. She last hit the boards in 3rd in the G2, The Jersey City Stakes in September and last ran in Delaware on 10/12/2019 in the G3, Bickerknocker Handicap going 9 furlongs. She was caught shortly after the 3rd call after leading the field to that point. She hit the brick wall and faded hard back to place 6th and was 7 ¾ back when she hit the wire. The odds makers showed this filly no love today as they make her their longest choice in this field. They will head out to the gates representing the All-Star Racing residency on Saturday.
Post Position: 5
Horse/Odds: The Everstorm 10/1
Sire: Stormy Atlantic
Jockey: R Logan
The owner places a call to Illinois to contract the services of jockey, R Logan for this race. He will be a first time rider up top of this 4 year old Brown filly. She won a Listed Stakes on the turf back in June in the Hundred Biscuit Stakes in Massachusetts. Her last trip to the track came on 10/27/2019 in British Columbia where she went 9 furlongs in a Listed Stakes, Gone Off Sake where she hit the wire in 2nd and was 3 lengths back when she crossed the wire. This appears to be her first attempt to step forward to the Graded level and will need to show not only the ability to compete at this level, but also find a little more fire in her legs as she steps up in Class. She will heading out to the track representing the GR Simsters residency come post time.
Post Position: 6
Horse/Odds: Kommander Of Kaos 8/1
Jockey: M Grunhard
She is a prior G2 winning 4 year old Bay filly. She earned that badge back in September of 2018 in New York in the G2, the Jersey City. She has not hit the boards at the Graded level since February of this year. But in her last outing on 11/02/2019 she ran in Oklahoma in a Listed Stakes, the Ichi Rashi Stakes where she took control at the 3rd call and made it to the wire first by 1 ¾ lengths. She put up a nice 116 speed rating that day, a speed she will need to bring along with her as she steps back up in Class against this field. Jockey, M Grunhard from Ohio gets the call to fly in to take to the irons with this filly on Saturday. He should bring his stiff whip and get this horse to fire as she lingers off the lead or closer towards the back of pack. They will head out in the post parade to represent the Megalopolis Racing Circuit residency.
Post Position: 7
Horse/Odds: Swirling Impact 8/1
Sire: Scratch Bred: SHAMARDAL x DEEP IMPACT x ROCK OF GIBRALTAR
Jockey: J Caves
This 4 year old Bay filly earned her GP badge in her last outing on 10/19/2019 in the G3, The Foolish Symbol Stakes in Japan at a distance of 9 furlongs. She clipped the wire in 3rd and was 3 ¾ back when she hit the wire as she was making a closing attempt. Prior to that race she ran on 09/06/2019 in Ireland in a $43,800/NW2y Allowance race at 9 furlongs where she went gate to wire to pick up the win by 1 length. She will have jockey, J Caves from Kentucky riding up top for this race. She needs to bring the speed from her last two outings with her to this race to remain competitive in this field as they head out to the turf on Saturday representing Empire State Racing.
Post Position: 8
Horse/Odds: Gawn Awol 13/1
Jockey: R Pollard
This 4 year old Bay filly has twice hit the boards to earn her GP badge but has failed to rise up for a win against Graded company. After making the switch to turf this season she showed she liked her new running surface. Her last outing came on 10/06/2019 in Germany at a distance of 10.5 furlongs in the G3, The Coney Island where she finished up 3rd in that race 2 ½ lengths back after making a good late closing run for the wire. Her owner secures the services of jockey, R Pollard from Ohio to take the mount up top of his filly for this race. She may need to show a little quicker step which she may be able to accomplish if she can get a good trip. They will be headed out representing GR Simsters at the post parade.
Post Position: 9
Horse/Odds: Flying Squirrel 8/1
Jockey: P Munoz
This 6 year old Bay mare will be the senior in this race and she comes in with much Graded level experience. She secured her G3 badge back in March of this year in Japan when she made a big closing effort from way back to catch the wire 1st by ½ length in the G3, the Nakayama Lady Stakes. She has hit the boards in both of her most recent outings which were at the G3 level. Her last outing was on 09/28/2019 in the G3, The Black Light Stakes in New Jersey at 8.5 furlongs where she showed up at wire in 2nd and ½ length back after another big and exciting closing attempt from as far back as 14th place at the 2nd Call. She also ran in this race last year when she hit the wire in 4th place. She had the same jockey in P Munoz from Illinois up top that day. They pair up again to try and improve on last year’s effort as they head out to the post representing the All-Star Racing residency.
Post Position: 10
Horse/Odds: Silver Way 4/1
Sire: Gold Allure
Jockey: O A Haack
The owner finds this number one ranked, 5 year old Bay mare in his stables rested and ready to add some prize money to the past efforts of this million dollar horse. In August of this year she won the G1, The Maybe Johnny Handicap in California at a distance of 9 furlongs and put up a respectable speed rating of 114 in that race. Her career high speed rating is a 118 and if she can show up with that kind of speed in this race she will be a hard contender to beat. She gets a new jockey of which she is not familiar to take the ride with her on Saturday in O A Haack. This jockey should have a lot of horse to work with, but for her running style this 10th post position brings me a slight concern. If she can handle coming out of this gate she should definitely be in the mix down the final stretch for home when they go out in the post parade representing the Only Stayers residency.
Post Position: 11
Horse/Odds: Really Shady 7/1
Sire: Real Solution
Jockey: K Naber
This is a 4 year old Bay filly bred in Kentucky and is out of the G2 winning mare, Cloud In The Sky. She earned her G3 badge and trip to the winners circle in her last outing on 10/19/2019 in Japan in the G3, The Foolish Symbol Stakes. She lingered just behind the leader and closed nicely to get up for a 1 length win at the wire with a 115 speed rating. She has eighteen career starts and has only missed hitting the boards in four of those races. She will get jockey, K Naber from Indiana to fly in to take the ride across the turf with her. This horse is flying in after her last outings in Japan and Norway. She seems to travel well so hopefully this will not affect her come race time here in Florida. She gets an unfavorable gate for her running style that she will also need to overcome. If she can do this we may see her in the mix as they head for the wire.
Post Position: 12
Horse/Odds: Gulf Of Dubai 5/1
Sire: Scratch Bred: CAMELOT (GB) x DUBAI MILLENNIUM x DYNAFORMER
Jockey: N Bonus
This 4 year old Bay filly gets the unlucky draw of the far outside post as she is another horse that likes being at or near the front. She has seventeen career starts and has only missed the boards four times in her trips to the track. She last ran on 10/19/2019 in Japan going 9 furlongs in the G3, The Foolish Symbol Stakes where she pulled in 2nd just 1 length back from a rival she will meet up against again in this race, Really Shady. She shows up with much experience to bring to this race and my only big concern for her is this outside post that she will need to overcome as they head out of the gate. She will have jockey, N Bonus from Illinois in the saddle as they take to the turf here in Florida. She will head to the gates representing the East-West Connection residency come post time.
Skippy’s Watch List
Silver Way: She looks tops in this field and should be there fighting for the wire.
Really Shade: Looks ready to race after that 115 speed in her last outing. She should be looking to hit the boards again.
Kommander Of Kaos: Put up a 116 speed in her last race. Hard to ignore even though it came at the Listed Stakes level.
Tarton’s Long Shot
Not Very Often has four straight wins in a row. You have to give this horse a chance on your exotic tickets at the betting window even though she is one of the longest choices in the field at 20/1 odds.
