OJAI is HIGH after Race!
Ojai High grabbed the lead and never looked back in the More of the Ginny Memorial stakes race today. This $55,000 six and a half furlong race for two year old fillies was run on the turf course under sunny skies and an enthusiastic crowd..
Ojai High has now won four of seven races with two seconds thrown in for good. She has moved up to the number three ranked turf sprinter and you wonder if Trainer Ojai is now questioning not saving her for the Breeders Bowl next week. The High Yield out of Ojai Surprise offspring has quite a lineage with some Fusaichi Pegasus, Machiavellian and Forty Niner in her background. Her four turf Stakes races have brought three winners and a second in the Grade One Fausters Juvenile where she was controversially bumped in the stretch.
Ojai High shot out from the #1 post and locked up the rail position throughout the race. Morning Line favorite Spinning Storm was right on her shoulder until the half-way point where she inexplicably pulled up and faded badly. There were no reports of injury after the race but it didn’t look good for her. Cherylyn BG made up ground in the stretch but only after Ojai High had eased back a bit. She still was good enough for second over Almost an Angel who ran an uninspired race but took home the third place money.
Trainer Ojai will now have to give his prized pony a rest and watch next weeks Breeders Bowl and only wonder what might have been.
