Pentagram Wows Ireland Racegoers

This week’s Sarela Memorial lived up to the hype, and was witnessed by a sellout crowd. K’s Escape t-shirts and caps were flying off the shelves, and commemorative cups were being sold at all refreshment stands. It was by far the most attention a non-graded race here has ever gotten.

The race itself began just as expected, with To The Nines grabbing the lead followed by Seeking Events tucked in right on her heels. K’s Escape and Quirt’s Hope settled in to stalk the leaders. The crowd forgot about the rest of the field as they watched the foursome set blazing fractions through the half. By the top of the stretch, however, the crowd was swiftly reminded that there were others in the race. They all sprang to their feet and a roar spread across the track like that of an approaching freight train. It was Pentagram, flying like a bright shining comet streaking across the sky! Quirt’s Hope looked her in the eye as she passed by, and gamely tried to go along with her. She passed the fading K’s Escape and Seeking Events, but the move was too late. Up front, To The Nines flicked her ears back and heard Pentagram coming, but it was too late. With a swish of her long white tail, Pentagram breezed by her to take the race in a very quick 1:34 2/5. To The Nines held on for second, and Quirt’s Hope moved up to take third. Pentagram recorded a 108 speed figure for her effort. K’s Escape finished a disappointing fourth, and Ireland’s Seeking Events took the fifth place cheque.

Asked what the plans are after this first loss, K’s Escape’s connections said that there are no plans to change what they’ve been doing with her. “It’s a track that favors mid-pack runners, and that’s just the way the race played out. She’s still a great filly. Win number eleven is not far away.”

Attempts to get comments from Pentagram’s ecstatic connections were not possible, due to the wild crowd around the winner’s circle and the pints of Guinness being poured all over everyone who got near enough.
