Challengers will keep their eyes on LOOKING PHYLLIS

Seven and half furlongs
Firm Turf
$55,000
Fillies and mares, 3 years old

Tolerant Bagel(NZ) is a seven year old mare that won 11 of sixty sim starts.  As a broodmare, she has produced two current sim runners.  As much as she liked the turf racing surface, one must admit that one of the entries in Saturday’s  event may love traveling over grass even more.  SEEKING PHYLLIS comes into this event as one of the true stars in the three year old filly racing division.  She has proven time after time in her young racing career, to be a consistent performer, with the determination and skills to be one of the sims all time stars.  The racing management is excited that they were able to schedule an event that would entice such a star to the track.

As for the 2005 Field for The TOLERANT BAGEL(NZ) Challenge:

PP1

WISHIN’ WELLS

Owner- lastfarm

Jockey- A Brothers

Odds 3/1

Kingmambo x Sadler’s Wells

After a few trips at mile or better, this talented filly is going stepping back to a slightly shorter distance (7.5f).  However, she is two-for two ( both wins early in her two year old campaign, she has good tactical speed, and has several impressive outings at one mile, so the shorter distance should not be a problem.  In this is a evenly matched event, I would expect her to be a few lengths back from the lead in the early stages, and positioned to move forward when entering the stretch.

PP2

NIGHT OF THE GHOST

Owner-swale

Jockey- Y Clubb

Odds-3/1

Night Shift x Silver Ghost

A non stakes winner- broke poorly and was not in the picture in her last run.  Her preferred running style is to be close to the lead and pressuring the pace.  If she breaks well, she will have an impact on the outcome.

PP3

SEMELE

Owner-phillyfarm

Jockey-T Mafit

Odds-6/1

Bahri x Atticus

Four weeks ago, she struggled in the grade I ~Sun State Cup, and finished a distance 29 lengths back.  Ownership would like to toss that race out the window and aim for a performance similar to her two previous outings, where she captured both races will a late surging run.  I would caution everyone that if she proves that at poor showing in the Sun State Cup was a fluke; she has the potential to capture this event.  In other words, her 6-to 1 odds is a bit misleading.

PP4

SEEKING PHYLLIS

Owner-chas

Jockey-K Naber

Odds-6/5

Seeking the Gold x Storm Cat

A race favorite, with the track’s leading jockey aboard- loves the surface and distance, and coming in with a streak of sound and solid performance- What reason would one not to consider her the favorite?  She is a text book performer with twenty consecutive starts on grass- resulting in twenty straight runs in the money (worse being third once, only two lengths back).  Ranked number two in the Turf Sprint division for three year old fillies- she is a true star and the main attraction at this track on Saturday.  It is safe to say that she will keep her “in the money on grass” alive.

PP5

TEZA BEAUTY

Owner- labreche

Jockey- N Stalker

Odds 6/1

Dynaformer x Forty Niner

After five straight trips on dirt, she will be returning to grass where she has won two of three starts.  This will be her first stakes event, and lining up eye to eye with SEEKING PHYLLIS may prove too much.

This is a very strong field of fillies on the grass, and all will be measuring their performance up against the one that SEEKING PHYLLIS puts out.  She is a star and stars gain both attention, and become the target for others to aim at in each race.

My selections are:  SEEKING PHYLLIS        SEMELE        WISHIN’ WELLS
